(This is a pretty well-known site, but I'm still going to adhere to forum etiquette and refrain from describing it too well.)

This a winery built in the late-19th-century, and part of a cult compound. It wasn't one of those cults that ended violently, but rather that back in those morally conservative days, all it took was accusation that the cult leader was, um, sharing his love too freely. And thus the utopian society he founded was quickly disbanded. The winery finally closed in the '50s.

As noted in another thread, I went out today for a relatively easy exploration, as I had just received my new camera. I also lent out my tripod (it shows up in some of these photos), so almost all of these shots are handheld and in mushy, flat light. The low-noise, high-ISO sensor came in really handy. Now all I need is to wait for my adapter to come in and I'll be able to drop on some fast manual primes on this baby. :D

Aestivossa (the manor house) itself had been demolished long ago, but the winery partially stands. It has suffered greatly from the ravages of time.

Many of these buildings were two stories, but the roof and 2nd-story floor has since collapsed in on itself.

Giant barrels line this room. There is also a tag of a pair of ursines in flagrante delicto, perhaps in the spirit of the cult that had existed here.

Lens flare test. Also, sense of scale.

The main room. This entire place is structurally unsound, as comparing photos from as late as 2008 to what we saw today reveals that major collapses are still occurring.

A boiler. Another photo that didn't turn out well suggested that these were once glass-lined.

Nature reclaims. Always.

Bonus photo!

A Mercedes 300SL Roadster I caught while en route to the site. A beautiful vehicle if there ever was one.

I love this place & have been several times. More dilapidated every time I see it. Thanx for sharing.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Sure thing, will do next time. Still getting the hang of this place. That 100K file limit is so constraining.
