| | | Like Crack the Surface: Episode 1, this is a well-produced piece documenting a subculture that is both gaining in popularity and fragmenting between those who see it as a lifestyle and the people who see it as a hobby. The most interesting thing for me is to see the cultural differences manifesting in the different perceptions of what urban exploration is. I really appreciate how Moses compared the exploration of the urban cityscape with the rural/wild landscapes. I thought it was a really useful juxtaposition in explaining WHY we do what we do. As an explorer, I have never really thought about that parallel before - it was really insightful. I would, however, like to see something examining urban exploration as a political practice - a conscious breaking of laws to assert our autonomy and freedom. But, I think there are some undertones in episodes 1 and 2 that begin to graze the surface of that. But yeah, the piece was fucking brilliant. Keep doin' whatchu doin'. Oh and, holy shit Minneapolis RPZT!

| | | I'm pretty excited about this one. It makes it a bit more awesome to watch, having been a part of some of the events and having met most of the people in the film.

| | | Exploration is subjective. I have sought and explored out more rural places than I have urban. Abandoned farms and farmhouses are just as interesting as the best drain or abandoned building or disused subway tunnel in the cityscape. We go where we go, and we go where others don't bother. They drive past it every day. They see it, but don't know about it. It's just there. It is our job to go there, and show it to them, as they would otherwise disregard it.

| | | I couldn't agree more with what they said. When you first start you shouldn't be worried about the community, just go out and have fun. I also completely agree when they say you shouldn't be worried about overtaking the largest drain system, abandoned building, or skyscraper right away. Start out small, and just have fun. Because in the end, the way that I view it is everyone who does this, does it because in there own way they think it is fun. [last edit 1/30/2012 3:34 PM by urbexkeith - edited 1 times]

I agree wholeheartedly. My first time exploring was in a drain, and I had no idea what to expect. The complexity of the system and the absolute absurdity to me of what I was doing were more than enough to get me hooked. I had very little knowledge at the time so I started out just scouting a lot of locations and wandering around the river and through wooded areas. Those are some of my best memories. Finally conquering a major mission is a great feeling, but finding a little grate in the ground that seems suspiciously interesting can be just as great.
