Last flight of the "Wild Child" < on 10/25/2011 4:51 AM >
I have mentioned on here before about some of the crash sites we visit, and even posted a couple random pics, but have decided to actually make a thread on one of our favorites that we actually hold very close and personal. These photos are from multiple trips to the site, and some even have the old watermark we put on for a little bit for who know why lol.
The below exert is actually quoted from a site which I have researched from, and will give you a bit of a background on this aircraft....
"On February 26, 2006, at about 8:30am the Aero Vodochody, L39C, N39DF (Wild Child), crashed into hilly terrain during a low altitude course reversal maneuver northwest of California City, California. The accident occurred during a flight conducted for the purpose of filming a motion picture involving the L39. The experimental category turbojet was owned and operated by Mach 1 Aviation, Universal City, California. The airplane was fragmented upon colliding with terrain and thereafter was consumed by fire. The airline transport certificated (front seat) pilot, and the commercial certificated (rear seat) pilot were killed. The flight originated from Van Nuys, California, at about 7:30am."
These are some of my favorite shots, but I have tons as I pretty much documented the site....

10. This is a piece of the pilot's helmet....... makes you really think to hold it in your hand.
11.Several pieces of the canopy glass which I have gathered and placed together at the site.
12. The Ejection Seat Assembly, both are on site, at the time of the crash these were "Cold Seats", meaning the ejection seats disabled.

14. The forward canopy frame.

17. This is a bonus shot that I can not take credit for, but find it good to show you the true beauty of this jet.

"Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors. The voice might be one and the same. I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be." http://www.flickr....orers/collections/

Thanks guys, and yes its a very humbling (I guess thats the best word to describe it) experience. Something about being in the middle of the desert, no real civilization anywhere to be found, and just calm, and then you reflect upon the reality of the site you are standing on.
Another side note I learned last night about the pilot, he was a 25 year Air Force F-15 Pilot with combat experience, who had just before this finally retired from service. This was also the 3rd and final day of shooting for the film. "Dream as if you'll live forever, Live as if you'll die today" http://CurtisNoblePhotography.Com
