are there any people who use rope ladders/some kind of portable ladders/rope? if so which ones and where did you get them..

was exploring with someone who is less a climber than me and was wondering if anyone has found any of the above useful.

or does this fall into the breaking and entering tools which are more or less a bad idea?

1. If there are some way to hang a rope, then I use two short rope loops that I hang from stuff I can get them around/on.

2. Retractable ladder bought at Canadian Tires a few years ago. Stays in my car, always handy, small to carry so it doesn't look odd. About $50.

I have tried this (and bigger, more recent models) through my job, and they are not reliable.

Sometimes, the compressed air is so powerful that it brakes the rope. other times, the air doesn't go out properly and the rope doesn't go much further than 5 meters.

Each shot costs about 50$ considering you have to re-do everything after.

That to say, we never use them even in case of emergency.

but seriously (jokes aside) get something cheap that does the job (the right height, etc) but something that wont burn a hole in your wallet in case you have to ditch it. (never know)

you may be able to get a cheapo 4 or 5 foot aluminum ladder for dirt cheap... even check craigslist for a used one if you need to... otherwise they sometimes are cheap at reno depot.

sure buying a fiberglass 150+ dollar folding ladder might be a better product but that isn't the kind of thing I would want to bring out to do something like UE where there is the chance you may need to ditch it.

+1
