| | What is your code of morals while UE'ing? < on 8/22/2011 12:21 AM >
| | | Been having issues with some of my current group. Some are ok breaking locks, some are ok taking stuff... I don't take anything and I've cut a lock once but really felt bad and haven't done it again. What do you guys consider ok? Would you cut the lock on an abandonment, would you harm any part of the building getting in? I just have a hard time justifying and calling something exploring if something gets messed up. As for taking stuff... seen a ton of cool things I would love to display. Pool sticks from a hotel bar last night actually. Just can't really make myself take anything though even if other people think it's trash.

| | | You are going to get a million different answers from this board! Such a diverse bunch of people. I personally never cut a lock. Never take anything to break in with . I do my intel so I know if it has an open point of entry. If no poe, than I do not bother. Why... because I do not want to get caught with tool and go to jail for taking a photo. I know a nice explorer that took a map of a location with him and got caught. He got into even more trouble for having the map. This lead to the officials taking his computer and that caused jail time. I say to be responsible and listen to that little voice inside of you. What you do today affects the rest of your life. Sometimes being cool is not so cool when you are alone and have regrets.

| | | Just imagine how you're going to explain your choices to a judge who has the power to give you a criminal record. Then decide if you want to be involved with forced entry and theft.

| | | I typically take a small souvenir home, usually something that won't be missed. As for damaging a building, the only thing I've done is knock a doorknob off of a second-story entrance. We sealed the door when we left

| | | Don't do anything while UE'ing that you wouldn't want posted on youtube. I'm watching you.
Naw, just use your gut. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. If you're in a place that will be demoed within the week, and see a neat little sign or trinket that you want to save, don't let your ethics condemn that piece of history to a trash pile. But don't scrap out all the copper of a abandonment that has decades of life left in it. Put yourself in the shoes of the property owner and that can often dictate what you should do and what you shouldn't. If it is owned by the city or some big corp that is gonna re-purpose the land in a month, don't feel bad knocking down a door or window to see it before it is gone. Just remember what the consequences could be for you and your buddies. My 2cent.

| | | I've only ever left somewhere with something I didn't start with once, it was a construction site with loads of coffee, tea and milo sitting around, plus some sweet company tshirts. I sampled some tea and someone I was with took a shirt and big tin of milo, which doesn't bother me. Anything of real value would bother me however, and I don't plan on breaking anything to get into somewhere. I'd prefer to leave 0 trace of ever having been somewhere (save for the photos!). | | | I'm definitely against B&E and theft just because to me it's obviously not worth the consequences. The thrill of the explore itself and the pictures are enough to take back with you. I'd rather get caught and fined than caught and jailed (although not getting called is the best option here). However; if the building was going to be leveled and trashed, I would not frown upon anyone who wished to save any artifacts from being erased from history, you would just have to decide if it's worth the risk.

| | | I've never forced entry (insert rape joke here). If the place I'm in is falling down or going to be demolished, I don't have a shred of guilt taking stuff out of it. Otherwise, I barely even move anything.

| | | The only thing you can control is what you do and what price you're willing to pay if you get caught. Whether an item is going to be missed or not, are you willing to face a theft charge if you get caught? Only you can answer that question. Are you willing to face a B&E charge if you get caught breaking that lock, cutting chain link fence, or whatever? That's all yours. Personally, I travel a lot to the US, including family vacations every spring. A theft or B&E charge screws that up for me and my family, so I'll stick with the trespassing fine.

| | | Be sure to pick up all copper you see laying around, or in the walls, the stuff is pretty valuable. I make sure to draw shitty penis murals on any wall that hasn't been vandalized, this way the potential vandals will know not to mess with that wall. If there's glass, smash it, if you don't someone else will, and what's the fun in that? If it's abandoned nobody owns it right? Take it! It's FREE!!! I try to make a lot of noise as well, it's good to let any potential crack head zombies dwelling within know I'll be visiting today.
Sorry, I'm bored.
