Did the grueling, steep hike up to the abandoned Potosi Mine in the Spring Mountains outside Las Vegas yesterday. The Potosi Mine is Nevada's oldest silver mine. The mine was quite extensive with approximately six levels of workings. The main entrance at the top of the mountain meant that most of the other levels were located downward inside the mountain. Stopes were a common feature in this mine as well as lots of winding tunnels, shafts, and raises.

That's a pretty extensive mine. I think I would have camped at the top if possible, but at least there are less snakes at night. Gotta love the Donkey Kong - esque music.

Very nice video! And I actually listen to music fairly similar to that, so I resent the Donkey Kong remark! Clearly that was at LEAST 64-bit game quality! =P
You should make the shlep up to Panamint City with us!

Thanks! Yeah, Panamint City and that killer hike up to it is definitely on my "to do" list. In the meantime, I and a couple others are headed out next week on a six-day camping trip into Nevada to hit up a bunch of mines. Will be camping out north of Pioche, NV in the hills to check out some mines there. Then moving southward to the ghost town of Delamar, NV to check out the extensive mines there for a couple days. And then swinging by Goodsprings, NV on the way home to San Diego to hit up some more remote mines there that are high up in the mountains.
