|  | | | And why the title might you ask? Because this Nuclear Powered Naval Vessel happens to be the same one that recently disposed of a load of terrorist trash the world needed rid of!
That said, I did not really plan on posting these pics on here, but after chatting about it I had my mind changed because even though we were able to obtain permission to have free run of the USS Carl Vinson, it still was a matter of exploring an incredible piece of man made machinery. So If you did not catch it earlier this is the USS Carl Vinson Nuclear Powered Carrier. Thanks to my cousin being stationed on it several years ago, and her high up contacts with the crew still, we got to spend a day basically doing whatever we wanted and going where ever we wanted (minus the nuclear reactors, Damn The Man). I wont say these pics are unedited, but lets just say I did clean up work of over 60 pics within an hour hehehe. I will try and post a minimal amount here, but the rest can be seen here

The big round parts are what pull up and release the anchors. The Chais come up through a hole at the other far end, then wrap around that piece and then go down into the shafts that have the flags painted on them. From there it drops down a huge huge huge.... shaft, where the chains are store when not anchored. Funny story.... we got to see that shaft, but to get there we had to go through womans quarters, so you have to knock 3 times at the door loudly, then crack it and yell "Male on deck" then wait five seconds, open the door and yell "Male on deck " one more time before going through the area. The ship was very much active at the time we were able to get this tour. Oh and I wish I would of got a pic, but don't think I was allowed, but as you go to leave the ship its guarded by MP and they have a board with pics of the crew that "have been bad" and are not allowed to leave the ship while its in port.... how shitty would that be!
This is the shaft under the items pictured in #11 where the Anchor Chain is stored (BTW these links are giant, about the size of a coffee table but hundreds of times heavier)

The anchor chains wrap around the capstan and drop in to the chain locker. The reason the end of the chains are marked is to let anyone on deck know that the end of the chain is coming and to move out of the way. The very end of the chain is called the bitter end simply because if you get hit by it... it'd be a bitter end.
