| | | i guess because its common knowledge? not really sure on this one - obviously people have been exploring the place and now everyone knows where it is, sure.. but - its about to be fully under construction, and it is the largest brick building in the southeast - probably one of the largest east of the mississippi at over 2 million square feet. smack dab in the middle of atlanta. i dont think there was ever any hiding this one haha

| | | There was a way in but only a handful of people knew about it (thank you bennet!). The more people talked about going there, the greater the probability that security would be increased. That would f things up for the people who knew how to get in. Sure, security was a joke, as it turned out. But it's always best to assume the worst about security. A question I always wonder about is, do security companies/cops ever read this site? And if they do, how much attention do they pay to it? Probably not much, if they come here at all. But why make it easy for them? Why mention a place by name so that it stands out? In the case of this post, there has been a change in ownership that will have major consequences for the status of the building. What used to be is no more. I for one have mixed emotions about it. I love that place. I want to be able to keep going there. But if it wasn't sold and redeveloped, it would eventually be torn down. And that really would be a tragedy.

That was more or less my reasoning when I posted some of the history, my working experience, and the new ownership info for someone that asked about it a week or so ago. Everyone seemed convinced it was even slightly secret, which is silly. There was also the argument that saying the name would snare miscreants and law enforcement interest through Google, which if valid, would seem to be just as big of a risk with having this entire thread dedicated to it.

Even better than the hand-written screw ups were the professionally etched signs CoA had all over the lower parking deck with bad spelling and random quotes and apostrophes all over the place. EMPLOYES ONLY was one of my favorites.

Perhaps people's reaction to you posting the name on that thread was a bit much, but I think that there's a valid point to be made about search. This thread discusses the future of a known and soon to be redeveloped location, but doesn't discuss what's inside. The other thread discussed what was inside without naming the location. You combine the two and you're one google search away from putting two and two together. For this location I guess it doesn't matter as much since CL's shown the public behind the curtain, but the principle remains.

| | | Oh, yeah. I completely understand the principle. I was just kind of taken aback by the reaction that seemed to lack consideration of the specific instance. There's healthy paranoia and then there's dangerous paranoia, and I was a bit concerned it was skirting a line there. I wasn't trying to bust up the rules or anything. Just thought it was strange to want to inhabit a space but eschew further understanding of it, particularly when said understanding might re-contextualize one's concerns. Hate to keep bringing it up, but I was thinking about it a lot, and I wasn't sure which side of the discussion may not have thought it through all the way. I'm inclined to say I did and others may not have, but that's a natural bias there. Still kind of waiting to see if there's something I missed that someone else might suddenly bring to light.

I didn't know people in Atlanta knew larger words! This "recontextualizes" my analysis I have complied over the ages about the region proclaimed as Atlanta Georgia.
