Nevada City isn't urban

So I am from Nevada County, CA and have recently fallen in love with exploring all over again. My friend recently started getting into his photography thing which has sparked a whole mess of exploring adventures.

So, about Nevada City, its quiet, boring and a tourist attraction. However it does have an old Hospital and tunnels that go under the city streets.

The tunnels are gross and wet. But, according to the cave-like paintings, beer can be found down there if you go far enough. There used to be whore houses that connected to the bars through tunnels.

The old Hospital has been abandoned. The building still has power and parts of it have been locked down but it is a pretty big building for the area. It has been a hospital, a psychiatric treatment facility, a county mental health building and a daycare/clinic.

The basement used to have padded walls and restraints bolted into cement. They have all been removed. We explored the main parts of the buildings but there are some we haven't gotten into yet. The morgue is completely separated from the main areas, we are going there next. Vandals have destroyed a lot of things there but it was fun.

In the early 2000s a patient went crazy and shot a state employee there then went to what is now lumberjacks and shot a bunch of people there too.

Sounds like you have a couple of fun places to go to, but lets see some more pictures!

To fail in what you've yet to achieve is more the spirit of exploration than to make no attempt at all.

Thanks again skrib for having me and the gf up and showing us around, minus the angry barking fox and the scared skunk in the bushes lol good times. If you guys got any good pics throw em up. I still gotta sort through mine

These aren't from our trip, they are from my first trip but should provide a good idea of what the place is like. I think the rest are at work so I'll look tomorrow.

I first went in on my lunch break and the lights on the first floor were on. My tripod broke but I managed to lock it into one position so please excuse the camera angles. Also I only had a half hour and the place is fairly large. There are three accessible stories on one wing and two on three other wings as well as some attic space.

I've been there a handfull of times and it's different every time so there must be plenty of other visitors, human and otherwise. The location is pretty safe if you can avoid the wildlife.

Thanks! Usually I try to avoid getting people in the shot but I've been there so many times I thought I'd try something different. Can't wait to see yours! We'll have to hit the tunnels soon if it doesn't rain. I think we found a way under Grass Valley too. I'll know more in a couple weeks.
