Augusta, GA Canal Trip

Planning to head out sometime to hit up some spots along the canal.

I know there is a bunch of old Mills and was wondering what are if any of the securities for these spots.... And anything good around there?

Anyone is more than welcome to come along,so PM me if your interested. I am still trying to figure out where to start off and end the UE trip.

Most notably I was wondering if the mills are easily accessible as I know they used to, thanks guys!

Sibley is amazing but I dont have access anymore.
There are usually 2 people there during the day/ 1 at night and they tend to stay in the turbine room.

Southern Milling company is a burned out shell.

King mill is still in production.

Enterprise Mill has been renovated and is in full use.

Sutherland Mill has been renovated.

Globe Mill has been renovated and is part of Davidson Fine Arts School

the old Davidson fine arts school might be doable

Boardman Iron Works has been demolished.

...............

Alot of stuff is just gone now.

Looks like I need to take out the calender and put some dates aside. You've been stoking my fire for some time now on these places.

Still accessible yes.....

During the day probably isn't the best time to do it.

Let me see if my contacts at the canal authority are friendlier than avondale was.

Mr. Sherrouse

My group and I have been photographing the changes at the Sibley plant since shortly after the shutdown and had permission to photograph the plant until Avondale abruptly shut the doors to our photographers in 2010.
Would it be possible to photograph the plant again now that the Canal Authority has ownership? I think it would be great to have a library of photos available before during and after any possible redevelopment plans.

Our group will also allow the photos to be used by the canal authority in redevelopment efforts.

Best Regards,

There are some other fun spots like the Aqueduct, the Miller Theater, and I hear the clearwater plant is still doable.

I think that a trip out to that Clearwater plant. The only bummer it is a bit far (lack of transportation...)

Looks like its still explorable though.

I didn't mind after everything else we saw. The exterior of the mill alone was enough for me.

I'll head out with you guys if we can get access. The clearwater plant is still very accessible I'd really like to do the old school as well. I'm down for just about any weekend!

Feel Free to do the school without me. I have to walk a fine line here in Augusta with all of my involvement with the preservation folks so the school is not on my list of places to do again.

I have legal access to the Miller Theater and the off-limit areas of the Lamar Building

I honestly haven't seen anyone there on any given day of the week lately. It's almost like demo has been halted or slowed dramatically.
