USA Petrochem and Scary Dairy Combo

I had to travel down to Ventura County for some unrelated work and figured I’d check out two of the more popular and easy locations I never got around to visiting before. Although scary dairy was fairly boring, I must admit that the refinery is still a pretty sweet location, even though it’s a frequently traveled spot.

My only complaint was the ticks in the brush area around the refinery. I did carry a few home with me. It wasn’t a big deal luckily, but it did disturb me a little. The little bastards don’t want to die.

On another note, could just be a coincidence, but I did see some construction people at the refinery unloading bulldozers, and other demolish equipment during the early afternoon. I ended up leaving and coming back. They were gone, but all the equipment remained. Hope that doesn’t signify the beginning of the end of this location.

Sucks the refinery is closed, but typical. Helps manipulate gas prices to more annoying highs...

As for ticks, maybe if you hadn't slept on that swanky couch you found.... ? ;)

Nice photos

Demo equipment = BAD

Unless they are just being used for storage. We have a tick problem up in the bay area also. Found no less then 8 on me & bonnie had 2 this weekend, red ones & black ones. Every time I stop for a shot or come out of some brush? Tick check. Great shots.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Being so close I had to find this place, Ariel view looks like there is quiet a bit there.... I go to Ventura every Thursday for meetings and actually stop maybe a quarter mile short of this place to turn into the lease. Kinda ironic, so close all the time yet never knew it was there. I definitely plan on scouting by it this week and then maybe me and the girl head back up there real soon. Looks like it could be fun, especially being my background in the oil industry, might make it a little more personal. Thanks for sharing, the pics look great!

Yeah. I hope that it's just being used as a storage spot for the construction equipment. Where they were unloading it was near the main office (or whats left of it) in the front of the refinery. They kept all of it on the back of the trailers. So maybe it's just being parked there until it's needed.

As for the tick check, I'm totally with you now. First time I ever had any issues. Ive seen them before, but never in the kind of numbers I saw at the refinery. I don't have a lot of phobias, but ticks disturb me. Haha.

I would say that after reading a little history on the place, and the concerns of contamination, that unless anyone has seen alot of remediation going on around the area, that there is no concern of it being demolished at this time. I work in the oil industry specializing in Health and Environmental, and can say that just by what I read in a little research on the place, it will be a huge undertaking to tear the place down meeting all environmental concerns. And in this economy right now...... probably doubtful. Now I wont say bet your salary on my view, but its what I see.

That sounds about right to me. It would be one costly under taking in an area that isn't exactly booming with business potential.

We used to go to the refinery years ago when there was minimal vandalism. Now that i see the state its in now, i can just imagine how many people have walked through there and touched everything. Its basically a whore to the masses, which makes it completely useless and uninteresting to me at this point. I can care less if they tear it down, because the mystique of it all has been ruined forever.

Just went by as I am down here for a meeting. The road in front is closed right now and they have it dug up. Looks like the construction equipment was moved in so they can run some new underground lines in front of the place.

Nice photos, looks like a lot more vandalism since I was there. The dairy looks the same lol.

As for ticks, I am out here in poop hole NJ. Had to do land navigation though the fricken forrest a couple days ago, not one person in my squad was tick free. Nasty little fuckers. Red and brown ones.

Damn, nice pictures...really nothing to add that hasn't been said!

I had heard of Scary Dairy, it was a bit out of my range(damn gas prices)

I was at the Petrochem last weekend and there were no construction vehicles. It didn't look like they were really pushing for a demo or anything.
