The works opened at the beginning of the 20th Century and provided silica bricks from the local yellow clay for the steel industry. The bricks were exported by sea, but tides created difficulties and the works closed at the beginning of the First World War.

I love 5, 8, 10 and 12. I don't know why but I always assume that it's cold and dreary over there (I'm in Australia) but it looks lovely and sunny there. Lovely pictures.

Ha ha ha... no it's not always cold and dreary. Not as warm as Australia though of course!!
