So unfortunately there was a change of plans and I had to leave yesterday, and by the time I got there, it was dark. Without the proper shoes and it being dark (and myself being absolutely terrified of black widows), I decided to save it for next time. If anyone wants to plan a trip to go out there and do some mine shafts later in the year, that would be awesome!

Yes. Many of our trips pass in that direction. I'll keep you posted.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Poopity poop indeed, Warped.

Yeah, if I can't make it with you on your trip later this month, we should plan something for later this year.

Hey guys, I'm definitely up for going, if you don't mind a noob going along. I remember going to Lake Dolores as a kid and it would be kind of cool to go check it out in all it's defunct glory. Anyone else remember going to this park in it's heyday?

I've been wanting to make it out here for a while now. Definitely going sometime this summer! Does anyone have any idea how tight the security might be?

Not necessarily. If I'm going to make the 3 hour trek, I wouldn't want it to be a complete failure.

Making a 3 hour trek just to see this location is pretty much a total failure to begin with. It's more like "if you're in the area" or "if you happen to be driving by"

Which really translates to "if you happen to be driving by", because there isn't much other reason you'd be in the area, unless you were cooking meth or something.

its FULLL of spiders, no slides left, mold, trash, some signs. I mean it's interesting sure, but not as the sole purpose of a 3 hour trip.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Haha, forsure. I was planning on combining it with some other sightseeing (Barstow seems like a wacky town) or just making it a leg of a Vegas trip altogether. Thanks for the info though! If only the slides were still around

Depends on how you drive and what you drive lol. Its about 2 hours from Vegas, maybe little less. Oh also depends on what day, If you go on a Sunday it will take for EVER! Cause you get the weekend leaving Las Vegas Traffic.

Vandals have smashed the shit out of it everywhere. The local county sheriff has been known to pop in from time to time.

It's certainly still there as of the time of this post in case there were people worried about that. Not a soul on the premises as I drove by a couple weeks ago. Had to pick up a vehicle in Las Vegas and drive it back to SoCal, but didn't have time to stop here unfortunately.
