| | | What was the abandonment like? Anybody that has done this before has some serious balls. Someone would have to give me $500k to get me to stay a night at a creepy abandonment alone.

| | | I've done it a few times to get night photography shots from the roof or to do some light painting inside the building. It's not too different from going in the day time. I also spent the night in an abandonment last weekend, though I was with three other explorers. It's not as creepy as you'd think. You get used to it pretty quickly. Just watch out for orbz...

| | | Maybe on a return visit, but I'd NEVER EVER go alone at night when you're a virgin to the location. You really don't know what's around you and sometimes a flashlight isn't enough light to really understand your surroundings. It's downright dangerous.
We're all just trapped between the stippled earth and the stubbled sky. |

Some friends were supposed to meet me but bailed so I said fuck it and went anyway. Some places are a lot more quiet in the winter so your less likely to run into "something". I had also been to this location before so it wasn't a big deal, but you really have to keep your wits about you if you've never been to a location before. Falling into a hole would suck. And the stray cats eating you before anyone found out what happened would be worse. A member here recently did an awesome thread about a trip made alone. It involved light painted people. *sorry, I looked and couldn't find it.

Nice picture.. that's pretty intense that you did that. I wonder has anybody been to an abandonment near or in the middle of the woods where there's not a lot of light around. That would be something you could brag about. [last edit 1/22/2011 3:36 AM by jcvh1992 - edited 1 times]

Yep. I live in Tennessee. Your never really that far from "Middle of the woods". There really are places here that are far enough out from cities that on a night with no moon, you really know what pitch black feels like.

So what kinda locations have you been to alone? I guess watching the grudge and the ring when I was younger really horrified me haha.. I used to be paranoid of the darkness when I was younger because of those movies but U.E. helped me overcome the dark.. but I still don't see how y'all could go to an abandonment alone.. well I could understand old abandonments you been to a lot of times but going to a new abandonment alone would just never be an option. | | | It's an empty building. Wooooo... Scaaaarrrry!!!. I've explored lots of places at night, that's actually the usual M.O. for me. And I've gone prohobo a few times though never alone; I'm comfortable everywhere and anywhere I'm not supposed to be, more so if I'm alone.
Where am I uncomfortable? Church, in public, anywhere there's lots of law abiding people because it makes me feel like a criminal when I'm surrounded by so many "normal people."

Try going it alone but pick an abandonment you've been too first. If you're that unnerved by the idea, getting it done will give you a rush while expanding your limits. Give it a go and good luck I prefer daylight simply cause the photography is easier, but if the situation calls for darkness...

| | | This summer, I planned my first overnight sleepovers in abandoned/vacant homes and really enjoyed them! Lounging in a comfy chair as the sun sets and waking up in a bedroom with the morning sun pouring on your face sure allows you to get to fully experience the place. Especially if you sleep in people's beds with clean sheets from the wardrobe...
Sure, I heard the occasional mouse scurrying around in the attic in the night, but I've dealt with that in my own house before. I tend to avoid night exploring, though, for practical reasons.

Well, funny enough, I kinda got started doing UE when I was working with the Tennessee Paranormal Research Society. I was there as their security, you could say. So I was wandering around alot of "haunted" buildings in the dead of night. I was normally off by myself exploring stuff cuz wherever they were set up, your not allowed to smoke anywhere near where they are taking pictures. Since ghosts oftentimes show up as smoke on film, you have to make sure your not making anything show up that is your own fault. So I would wander around the rest of the building by myself normally making sure it was clear of homeless folks and looking for any hazards or anything. I've seen alot of weird shit over the years that I won't get into here. This is a UE board. Not a ghost hunting board. If anyone is interested though, feel free to PM me. As far as the sights though... Old hospitals, graveyards, churches, civil war sites, and just random buildings that have been shut down for whatever reason.

Going ghost hunting in an old haunted and creepy abandonment in the middle of the night? Don't forget to bring this.
Just for the moment when you find that pesky ghost you can blind it, shoot it and kill it and make sure it stays dead. Also comes in handy when Lord Rick jumps out of the bushes making ghost noises.

| | | I've explored some abandonments, such as this, alone at night. However, I wouldn't have done it if the place had been abandoned for decades instead of just couple of years, its structural integrity unknown etc. I'd also avoid places with sudden death features such as large unprotected openings in floors if I was alone.
