|  | | | This was my first urbex location. I hit it up a about two months ago and am really itching to go back. Soon. I'll post some info on the place later today.
The factory was the Brachs Candy Factory in Chicago, IL and was at one point the largest candy factory in the U.S. exmploying around 3,000 people at it's peak. It was shut down in 2004 when Brachs moved its manufacturing to Mexico in favor of cheaper labor (like a lot of U.S. manufacturing). The factory is gutted pretty well with almost all of the machinery missing, however, the history behind the building really makes it an exciting explore. Walking around and taking pictures, it's interesting to wonder what it must have been like during its peak.
There is a reality company currently trying to sell the property but judging by the way things look, the place is far from fixable and will likely end up getting demolished due to the specialized nature of the building and the cost it would take to remodel it.
During the filming of "The Dark Knight" the administration building to the factory was blown up in the scene where The Joker blew up Gotham Hospital.

Thanks  . And yes, unfortunately Great Lakes it is lol. Chicago is great, but Great Lakes... not so much.

Replied in PM, don't wanna put too much out on the web. Captains mast is a bitch though, I've seen some guys go through it. I covered my ass at Brachs though, I more or less had permission to be there.
Speaking of Mast though... it seems like about 99.5% of the people I see go there go there because of ARI's. A situation that normally would be an ass chewing turns into Mast as soon as it's discovered boose was involved. So... I just don't drink.

If you look around you'll find some but, suprisingly (atleast in the parts i've explored) though there is very very little... I found one little wrapper the whole time I was there. I haven't actually found a piece still in the wrapper yet lol.

Metalmike, I carry OC spray, a "D" cell maglight , my cellphone and hope for the best. When I can I bring a buddy. I have a CCW permit as well but I dont carry when I explore places where I'll definately be tresspassing. I'm not going to lie, it makes me extremely uncomfortable to be in a place like this with out a firearm but getting busted while carrying (even legally) is grounds for armed tresspassing charges which is a felony. You'll lose your permit, you'll go to jail, and you'll never be able to legally own a firearm again. And good luck finding a job anywhere decent with that in ones record. Now thats just what happens if you get caught, I'm not sure what kind of aweful things would happen if one actually had to shoot a meth addic while in a place like this. You have to weigh your risks.
It's easier still to resist carrying a gun in IL, because you're not even allowed to :/

yeah thats kinda what i was geussing thats why I never carry on explores . Not worth the punishment if caught . Im sure if you had a firearm and had to use it while tresspassing no matter what the case would be jailtime
