Results: Bay Area Meetup II

The group checked out a very trashed farm house. It threatened to rain but didn't amount to much. Most walked past the "Cave of Disappointment". One of us decided to scale the fence to check it out and was terribly disappointed. Next was an abandoned cow slaughterhouse, complete with an abandoned cow. Had lunch at In-n-Out (the staple diet of exploring groups). Some of us then went to check out an abandoned hotel near Byron. Were warmly greeted by the caretaker and his rifle 20 minutes later. We decided to take the hint and leave as the alternative wasn't nearly as tasty as a Double Double. Not a bad day for exploring.

Will post photos later after I weed out the point and shoot fails.

Oh, and Cowboy- we have a security question for the attendees. Will PM to you later.

"How was the Disappointment Cave?"

-"Disappointing."

"...Yeah."

The Byron Hotel should also be called the Disappointment Hotel as well. lol

Not too many good ones from my P&S. Here's at least a general shot of each location we hit up.

I took around 200 pictures, and I'm sure I'll be posting more later, but for now I threw together a little before+after of the byron/disappointment/rifle-man hotel's dining room

and the remaining group enjoying the sunset through their cameras

Wish I could have made this trip!

All 3 of those buildings/properties have an unbelievable past! It is ashamed that now they are just 3 empty, abandoned buildings and their stories forgotten and not mentioned here. I have been to all 3 while they were still in their glory (Except the Byron Hot Springs Hotel, was there for the first time in 1983 and it was still intact with marble floors, a huge Wells Fargo wall safe, all light fixtures, no tagging, and several people still living on the property in homes). But all 3 are locally famous properties with some really crazy history!

I used to never be able to make these things, as I ALWAYS worked weekends. But Hey! PROMOTION! Woot! Now I rise at 4 am, but I've got saturdays and sundays off. Perhaps one of these days, my pinstripe wearin keester will have to join ya ;)

That is why I have a job on campus. I may not get paid much but they understand that a)I have class and homework and b)i like my weekends. It is a pretty good deal.

Onto another note, that is one brave soul climbing those steps in the video. I am pretty terrified of heights, especially if I can see through what I am standing on so I avoid those situations. That is a nice view though!

Yet again, I question why my family moved to the worst part of the country and live my adventuring life vicariously through all of you. I need to head back east or out to your neck of the woods sometime.
