| | | I'm relatively new to actual exploring, I've liked reading about it and gone out occasionally for the last 3 years but just started taking it more seriously in the last two months as far as going places on my own, going around the great lakes states in all the free time that 4th year of engineering school allows. Sorry about the length of this for a first post, but it seems like you guys can be rather tough on the new guy when it looks like someone is asking for info, so I wanted to show that's not what i'm about. I guess everyone really DOES discover HDR. Then we learn better.

| | | Great set mate! Maybe a little too many photos at once but hey who cares!!! I love the fact you focus a lot of some of the graff work inside those places. I have a soft spot for graff art. For a first timer you seem to of covered a lot of places.

| | | Thanks for the mostly positive comments so far. Maybe next time I should break the photos into sets, but I thought this would be better than me just coming in here and starting right off with 10 subjects. And yeah, about those HDRs. G, you got it: I was quite BLAMMO at the time, they looked good then, they really don't now. But they're different...a lot of artists have had successful careers by making things that are hideous and trying to argue they're not. I won't even do that -- they are ugly.

It was supposed to be. Are they better if you don't think of them as being photos at all? And regard them as computer graphics that don't even pretend to act as photographic record of a location? Or maybe they're just terrible. Now I just have to keep up with this somehow, now that I've started right off with 26 places it might be a while until I'm out again, especially with that last one (132-137) being what it is.

i understand what you were doing. when thinking of them like that, yeah. i could see that there couldnt possibly be any way that you were trying to simulate actual hdr effects. i was thinking to myself, before even reading the comments, how they let me feel the topography moreso than a normal photo would. it reminds me of the wrong sides of strangely made intricate fabrics, or computer innards. and the others are pretty neat. keep it up.

Yes, exactly. That's one out of 11. I liked how they brought out more color and texture than any sort of subject matter, and the only way i think you could see these as trying to be actual photography is if the place really looked like that. And while it had fallen apart and grown moss/mold/fungus/trees to a remarkable extent, it certainly looked nothing like these graphic representations of it. Oh, and they're not even entirely right to say that they're HDRs at all, similar process but totally different intent, 3D might be more like it.
