Rookie explorers/hikers need help getting to the Castaic Mine.

Hey, a couple of friends and I decided to get into Urbex and so far the only place we explored was an abandoned hospital that we found through a friend. So we were looking for some spots not too far away from us (Los Angeles) and after some googling, found a bunch of mines, the closest one being the Castaic mine.

First attempt we started a bit late and chose a bad path and were exhausted/demoralized after just getting to the stream north east of it. We called that a day.

Second attempt we followed the stream down to as close to the mine as we could, but even with a topographical map from google maps, we couldn't find a path up to the mine, there were about 3-4 scree slopes that might have been it, so we climbed up one with no success, coming down from the slope I had ripped my pants, and cut my hand open. We were out of water ( except for stream water + iodine tablets, yuck. I'll invest in a filter.) So we went home.

So now we are asking for help, can someone message me the path to take closest to the stream to get to the mine? Or does anyone want to go there next week? (any day but Wed. or Sat. is good for us.)

I know about other mines that are easier to get to, but this mine kicked out ass twice and we are not about to give up.

P.S. Found some odd wooden structure along the stream, I'll take more pictures next time I go.

Great attitude! You are aware of the dangers of entering an abandoned mine, but you ran out of water. Glad you have your priorities straight.

Dav would have all the info on it. He's probably the most knowlagable person in the world on that specific mine at the moment. Has been there many a time. Was also there the day Hugh passed trying to reach it.

P.S. Was just at Allison but only had two hours. Wanna return soon. Contact if you need another memeber for either trip.

Dav and I just did this trip with Pytis and some others this last weekend. We had a great time. Everyone stayed safe, Dav and I both brought water filters. I had a GREAT time. I'll post pictures soon.

Big_Dave, why are you always such a total douchebag on mining threads? He didn't say he RAN OUT of water, he said he ran out of the water he BROUGHT with him, but had Iodine tabs to purify the stream water. Just cuz it tastes icky doesn't mean it's not perfectly safe.

Why don't you READ the post before you wade in and bash someone? I can't remember the last time you ADDED anything positive to a mining-related thread. You just open your mouth and start lambasting people for no apparent reason. I'm convinced at this point that you just get pissed off that other people are actually out exploring things.

I wouldn't mind checking out this mine someday. Let me know if a trip is in the works! It'd be great to go along! Been running out of mines down here in the San Diego area to explore and have been venturing further north and east to the larger, more extensive ones.

I only just now got my videos sorted out from this trip. I also just realized I've put up picture threads on two other forums but not on here yet. I'll have to get around to uploading the videos to my youtube, and putting a thread together.
