| | | I was rollerblading around my neighborhood shortly after I moved here and saw a cute black kitty. Kitty lead me to an old abandoned sidewalk that went off into what I knew was the grounds of an old golf course. I was bored, so I followed the path and ended up coming out behind the old Club building. I'd known it existed, but hadn't the slightest clue where to even begin looking for it. Thank you, cute black kitty, for showing me the way! I took pics of the outside, noted the fact that the power was still on and you can see alarm sensors from the windows where boards have been pried up enough to peek in. A couple days later, my girlfriend and I went back with her SLR to take some better shots and noticed that one of the previously boarded up old vent holes had been kicked open. It was open, and there were no cops there yet, and we hadn't passed anyone coming there, so we said screw it and went inside. We were there for about an hour, poking around the old rooms and seeing some of the rather odd smiley faces people before us left on the golf cart and minifridge.
There's an abandoned chemical storage facility on the same lot, so when we were done with the Clubhouse, we went over there to poke around but it's sealed up tight, no way to entry.
Then on the way home we took a new side road and found an amazing building right down the street from me I hadn't even known existed! There will definitely be an investigation to see if it's alarmed or if entry is possibly without the local police arriving before I even get TO the house. As you can see from the pic, it's up on a rather revealed hill and there's houses all around.

| | | XD Good lord let's see if I can answer these in a relative order... Yes, that black kitty is the one I followed. Yes, it's a different golf club than ScubaBrett's, and not nearly as big or spiffy as his. There's a bunch of stuff left there because it's still pseudo-active. They use it as a storage building while the golf course's future is still up in the air. My girlfriend and I did some extra investigating on the net and found out 'The Matanzas Course was closed in late 2007 for renovation. Because of the poor economic conditions in the real estate development business, the project is on hold indefinitely.' But the owners have 2 other golf courses that, for a time at least, they used the Matanzas building as overflow storage for. As we discovered when we went inside, there IS an active alarm system, but it only alerts the City to come and patch up whatever hole the neighborhood kids have ripped open this time. The city workers were pulling in just as we were leaving, and were very polite. We played as if we hadn't gone inside yet, asking them to escort us around to ensure we didn't mess anything up. They apologized, said they couldn't, and then patched the hole. They didn't even bother to go inside to see if anything was out of place, though it would have been funny if someone was still IN there.

| | | My area is absolutely littered with small houses, motels, etc. that are abandoned or inactive and boarded up. Only problem is that 90% of them are either surrounded on all sides by very close neighbors, or sitting right on a major roadway. So actually getting into a lot of them involves walking through a couple hundred feet of undergrowth and coming up behind them out of the view of the road. Something that's a little awkward at the best of times in Florida, where you can be all the ninja you want and still make enough noise for an elephant in the bushes.
