| | | i know, I post to much on here and I hate cluttering up the board. But ive been searching an searching around google and shit and I can't find anything in San Fran that isn't overly secure or federal property. Mare Island looks cool but i heard it was " repurposed " and federal property. Then theirs Hunter point but again im not going to screw with federal property unless i get permission. Im flying up in August with my family from Wisconsin and landing in San Fran and driving back to Wi to see everything. Were driving up to the redwoods so if theirs anything around their that would be cool

| | | I live in Milwaukee and I'll be flying out of San Fran in a few weeks, hah! I wanted to urbex a bit while I'm there too, but I just don't think the city is that good for any abandoned buildings, period. It's too new, and the nature of the city really doesn't allow for empty spaces to be left empty. I hope you find some!

| | | if everyone waited for permission UE just wouldn't be as fun. I can understand not wanting to risk arrest out of state though. good luck.

| | | In San Fran proper there aren't many abandoned buildings (of note), it's true. However, there's a big abandoned naval base in Oakland, a big abandoned factory-type building in Berkeley, a really neat abandoned glass factory in Alameda (I think it's Alameda), and an abandoned commercial hot springs in Gilroy (about an hour or two South). Oh! There's also an abandoned amusement park like an hour North. If you want something extremely low risk (and potentially not even considered UE), check out the Albany Bulb in Oakland. It's a huge/cool public art project made out of earthquake rubble.

Keep posting! There are a lot of nice people here willing to share and, we want to hear about your adventures and see your photos. This is a community! Try looking on FLICKR. sYnOnYx is right, getting busted out of state sucks. But, trespassing and risk taking and not asking for permission kinda go hand in hand with the idea of Urbexing. What risks are you willing to take, to see things no one else will, in places no one else will go? I don't know if urbexing during a family trip is a good idea-

He's right, Flicker is a GOLDMINE. As is Google. And there's also a lot of unexplored items on http://wikimapia.o....0196&z=10&l=0&m=b, if you put in the right keywords you can get some interesting untouched hits sometimes. Course, things that have just closed are much more challenging. And border more on B&E than photography of abandoned places, but....w/e. I <3 Wikimapia.

| | | BTW usually i would trespass, but were tight on money right now and mostly everything good is federal property or heavily secured and I just can't risk it right now. Yeah an abandoned mine or house im going to trespass in but im not one to go on military owned property needless to say break and enter. i won't say my age but im still young and I can't get into THAT much trouble

I politely suggest you do a little more research. Much of the former Mare Island Naval Ship Yard & its Hunter's Point Annex are no longer federal property & are wide open for legal visitation as well as less than legal exploration. /-/ooligan
