| | | The Clermont Hotel on Ponce was closed December 31st 2009. The Lounge in the basement continues to operate. Renovations of the 86 year old building are going on slowly.

| | | Ah the Clermont. Where retired, c-rated strippers go for their final few years before social security kicks in. [last edit 6/5/2010 8:22 PM by sonicreducer - edited 2 times]

| | | View from the roof facing West
This bird was just perched on the light fixture, swaying back and forth a bit. It was the only animal life I saw.
The elevators had to be manually worked, and they had no one to run them for the months before they closed.
Old fusebox wiring.
Behind the front desk.
The elevator was not permanently stationed on the first floor, and had a shower installed in it.
In a staff bathroom.
More electrical stuffs.
This room became a sink graveyard.
Another sink graveyard, with a demolished bathroom wall on the left. The windows look out on the parking lot and Ponce de Leon.

My thoughts exactly, except we don't have a room of sinks and toilets I don't believe. Our abandoned hotel is bigger than their abandoned hotel though. ;)

| | | I only had a few minutes, but I got to scope out the basement of the Clermont, under the Lounge. Some basic junk.
Yes, that's an Office of Civil Defense water container. That agency existed from 1961-1964.
Big freaking fuse boxes.
The windows were boarded over after a homeless guy got in and started ripping out pipes.
Graffiti gets everywhere.
The scariest time out chair ever.

| | | The "time out chair" in the basement and the "behind the desk" shots are my favorites. Very nice! Is it still being renovated actively? I just can't imagine that it would actually be renovated into habitable hotel rooms again. It seems like someone would sooner demolish the whole place than renovate, with how Atlanta tends to do (or did during the real estate boom several years ago).

It's being renovated, but slowly. Upper floors have had furniture and carpets removed but not much else. Lower floors are having more serious work done including new paint, bathroom fixtures, carpet and more. It's going to be a while before it is all done.
