| | | A few buddies and I headed out to the Los Padres Mine at the end of February. It had just been cracked open by some gentleman who probably took the advice from the front door, "torch works"I heard last weekend that they bulldozed the entrance shut, so who knows if it will ever see the light of day again. The Los Padres mine was a bit of an anomaly. Seismologists used it as an aftershock measurement station after the 1992 Landers quake. It was quickly squired by Lawrence Livermore National Lab and CalTech following the quake. Stuff you don't generally see in a mine, desiccant packs, computer boxes, and what's this... A RACK!I didn't think I'd be taking what is possibly the swan song for this mine (or I would have done a much better job). We were also interested in ...seeing... what is through this wall but I guess that isn't going to happen anytime soon. Then we dropped a nearby hole for fun!If you're interested in a few more pictures here they are: http://dav.me/gall...228_LosPadresMine/
