Is there anything out there worth stopping for? I am driving from Vegas to LA on Sunday and I am looking for a few places to stop off on the I-15 to get some shooting in. I already plan on hitting the Rock A Hoola.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I know the drill, I am not looking for specifics, just ideas.

Thanks guys.

There's pretty much nothing there at Zzyzx Road. However, there is an abandoned water park east of Barstow that would be fascinating to explore. Not sure about security though. If you're heading to Las Vegas on I-15 you can't miss it.

That would be Rock-A-Hoola. All the slides are out now but still awesome.

If you are willing to drive a little out the way past Dumont Dunes you need to visit the War Eagle mine. Huge and completely safe mine. Plan on spending hours there.

70 miles out of the way. But honestly well worth it.

Mohawk Mine is right off the freeway at Cima rd exit. Go north for about a mile. Follow the power line road 2 miles east. Can't miss it. See Desert Adventures part 3.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I made it to the Rock A Hoola and had some fun there. If it is not raining (WTF) today on my way back to Vegas, I am going to Zzyzx with my medium format to shoot some chrome.

Thanks to who ever spilled that red paint all over the sidewalk at the Rock A Hoola! Made for some real good shots.

For reference, there are some abandoned buildings from Curtis Springer's former resort at Zzyzx including the pool and nearby lodging area. Lake Tuendae is picturesque. Photo history buffs will note a Joel Sternfeld image from this location. The Desert Studies Center at Zzyzx is active, but they welcome guests during the daytime. This guy has some recent photos on his blog:
