A certain Dam.....

Hey folks, been itching to check this out for a while so today I finally went. Wasn't totally prepared so I didn't go check out the other end. If my information is correct this tube/outlet you see should extend a little over 2000 feet into the hills behind it and end at a very large hole about 100 feet above your head. The whole thing looks to be some kind of emergency outlet/drain for the lake it's connected to with the water being pumped out by a pumping station that's part of the South Bay Aqueduct. The water being pumped flows downstream so only a little of the water goes up into the tube since it goes at an upward incline and further in appears to be dry. You can't see it in the photos however there is a steel walkway the is suspended to the right side of the tube that extends as far as I could see in which is accessible by a ladder locked in two places with Best locks (yay). I apologize for the poor quality photos and video but I took it all on my iPhone and uploaded it while walking back. I definitely plan on making a return trip to get inside this thing when it warms up and they don't have hundreds of gallons of water flying everywhere. Perhaps another group trip to be scheduled . Anyhow, lemme know what you guys think and if you know more about this location please let me know!

I know the dam, as well as the lake it's attached to. It's attached to whats known as a morning glory spillway on the other end. By my *rough* measurements, yes, it appears to be about 2k feet long. The elevation change (from the crest of the spillway, to the exit below) is approximately 200± ft.

I agree that you'll have better luck UE'ing this one in the drier months, however, if you want to see one of these bathtub style drains in action, you can take a trip a bit further north to Berryessa that has a really nice example of this type of spillway.

Let me know if I can help you out with any more research.

Sounds fun! Let's go!

Great info, Julian. Yeah I'm planning on making a return trip when i gets warmer and drier haha. Anyone else here of course is welcome to come with.

Big Dave: Funny that you mention that cause there's an area not too far from there where you can fish away from the public. It's a tiny little cove that's hidden pretty well which means fishing for free ;).
