Actually, we've driven that route the last time we were in the reserve, and yes, it is passable. Let me see, 20 mins after a full day of nothing but driving and standing around, broken up by an hour of good times inside the mine, didn't leave either of us with the feeling that we were in good hands. Like, we just spent the better part of an hour getting the Honda through the snow, and the plan of attack is to drive back into the snow to camp? Come on man. I don't need someone else making bad decisions for me. I can do that just fine myself. My beef is with the tards standing around while others, including your girl, shoveled snow.

Geeze

I'm okay if you don't come out next time.

I don't even know where to begin with this. I wrote out an essay in response to this but fuck it. We all fucked up a bit. The snow fucked Saturday. Blaming every individual for every mistake is fucked up. The only response I want to make is that we didn't travel 80 miles to pick up gas but to see all the sights at a lower elevations. We lost two other locations because of the amount of time spent at bonanza. If you and Snordhol had stuck around 20 mins later the trip did a 180 and turned into an truly incredible experience. Thanks to Shockwave Saturday's campsite was great. Sunday was an absolute blast with many locations and a 30 ft. tall bon fire to finish things off. I think others will agree with that. I am sorry the blizzard screwed things up a bit. But the rest of us regrouped and replanned and won. I'm really proud of those that stuck it through and kicked ass.

Could you enlighten me as to how traveling close to 100mph down the 40 towards that gas station, and back, enabled any in the group to do anything other than waste a tremendous amount of fuel? What sights could you/did you see in the time between us leaving the gas station early, and you guys showing up?

Let me just say that the reason we decided to pack it in was the total lack of confidence we had in the rest of the trip being successful. I am happy for you and those that stayed there that you had a kickass time. However, that post was not just directed at you, but at everyone who attended. The lack of confidence started right at the very beginning when we were told of guns with blanks in them being fired at cameras so the flames could be shot with a camera. I am sorry, but that just screams immaturity and stupidity with weapons. The fact that they were being pointed at someone makes me wary to be around that person. Firearms are extremely dangerous, and those actions made Snordhol and myself extremely wary of being around those who show such poor judgment.

I believe that the two other locations would not have been lost if a time schedule was announced ahead of time. A simple "we are leaving in 45 minutes for the next location, so please be back at the cars or we leave without you" would have solved the going in the mine and not coming back up problem, and allowed the group to see the rest of the planned locations.

Knowing that where you camped the night before was buried in snow might have been a clue that finding a better campsite might have been a good idea. I do not know if everyone was prepared to camp on the snow. I hope they were, and I hope that no one froze their balls off sleeping on the snow. The Bonanza mine, in my opinion, would have been an excellent place to camp at compared to where we ended up. Everything that was done that night could have easily been done there as well.

As far as the drive from Bonanza to the campsite, it was pathetic the lack of willingness to help that a majority of the group displayed. I was extremely happy to see that the two women put in so much more effort into getting things moving than almost anyone else. I know for a fact that Snordhol and myself were largely responsible for organizing getting the convoy moving again. We towed out the Honda, and assisted in getting every other car moving when they needed help. If we did not get it moving, who would have? Who would have kept them going as well til the road became more passable?

This part I wanted to type out all by itself. Hearing in the parking lot about how one of the group fired a gun that had blanks in it at a camera so someone could take a picture of the flame boggled my mind. How cold you possibly think that is an appropriate activity with a firearm? I am as big a gun rights and gun enthusiast as they come, but I know that guns are to be respected, and treated as if they were loaded at all times. It is extremely dangerous and irresponsible to point a firearm at anyone, no matter what you think it is loaded with. That point started my initial apprehension with the trip, and sealed the deal when we decided to pack it in.

I simply refuse to be painted as the bad guy for making the decision to not finish out the trip after that poor and disappointing of an experience. This being my first UER experience, seeing the event stage, and assuming that it was well planned, inspired initial confidence. Seeing that there was a planned itinerary, with laid out destination made me confident that a good time would be had by all, and that there would be little lollygagging and what not. That was clearly not the case. The time spent digging cars out of the snow wile a good majority of the others stood around and did nothing, or sit in cars and did nothing while their girlfriends did everything they could pretty much sealed the deal for us.

Shockwave:

As I said earlier, this was my first UER trip. I saw what appeared to be excellent planning, and decided to roll with it. I did not expect a group to just bound down the mine without thinking of establishing an out time, or that people would do nothing while others struggled to free stuck vehicles. When it came down to brass tacks, on the snowy road, I stopped listening to others. I helped get the Honda free. You might recall that it was my idea to tow it through the rest of the rough stuff with the pickup. I suggested numerous times to back the 4-Runner up to tow the Honda out, but apparently that suggestion fell on deaf ears. I guess you could say that I gave much more than the benefit of the doubt to those in charge, and in the end had to do what had to be done to get things moving when it counted most.

Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't get in a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't pick up the phone, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit don't fucking roll!

Sorry to hear things went to crap for a bit during this trip.

As an ex-Recovery tow operator that has pulled upside down cars out of swimming pools.

And as an ex-President of a 4x4 truck club that has pulled drunken idiots out of places that they never should have gone.

I feel qualified to say, A Honda Civic on a unplowed snowy desert road is a challenge, to say the least.

Glad to hear no cars were bent or broken, and that all made it back to civilization unscathed.....Great photos..

You can see a million miles tonite, but you can't get very far.

Just to clear up something that is really bothering me. I did a shot with a PROP pistol by myself and two other people the day before the event. I work as a UNION KEY GRIP and it is MY JOB to protect cameras and personal from blanks during shoot out scenes. I WAS the camera man. This photo has nothing to do with the event and I don't even know why this was brought up. I give an open invitation to anyone to join me at work and see M-16s being fired at the camera anytime. Thank you.
