| | | You mention being enthralled by the database, please utilize it in a respectful manner. POE are not posted in order to prevent people from destroying or vandalizing the locations we care about preserving. If you cannot find a POE, be creative about it. Anyone can throw a rock, it takes skill to access the building without the "breaking" part. Try manholes, roof-top access, or heck, even asking the owner's permission. Welcome to UER, I hope your future explorations can be free of vandalism. We'll be here to help you figure it all out!

| | | Going along with what others have been saying, you shouldn't really ever take anything or break anything. Someone obviously owns that bingo hall and if what you're doing is going to cost them money you're missing the point of UE. I hope reading all these responses makes you realize the difference between UE and what you were doing.

You reference to "juvenile" graffiti and others breaking the law is ironic considering that you've just admitted to breaking and entering. Consider this scenario and ask yourself which location you'd like to explore and take photographs of: 1) An old house full of photographs, an old piano, television (with tubes instead of transistors), dishes in the cupboards, letters in the dresser from the occupant's son, old bottles, peeling paint. 2) An old house filled with broken glass, broken beer bottles, graffiti, a kicked in television set, smashed dishes, a piano that's been axed, torn up letters, and someone's hauled off the photographs. I would think most people would prefer the former than the later. When YOU smash glass, remove items, it slowly but surely degredates the location / makes it look shittier / less safe for others / less "memories" for others to photograph. Even though it may be someone elses "junk", abandoned and nobody will notice if it's missing - the consensus around here is that we do not remove things from locations so that others may enjoy it nor do we smash things. It happens - but it is strongly discouraged as you are finding out. Please learn from this experience. [last edit 7/21/2009 7:13 PM by Intrinsic - edited 1 times]

| | | Haha, thanks for the feedback. Although I guess it really isn't a "haha" moment, I just want to thank the people who gave constructive feedback and not harsh criticism. I can totally admit that me and my friends were wrong now, I appreciate how quickly I was called out, but am grateful that I wasn't immediately chased out of these forums. If I could only tell you the angry emails and messages I got from this, you would only laugh. I'm glad this is a learning experience and not a jail time experience. I'll let someone know when I do something right, haha. Thanks.

| | | I dont think ive ever broken a window to get in somewhere, pry boards or a door yes, but not a window. Usually if its not boarded up the people still use it, esp if it has windows that you could enter through. Im going to call the owner of the bingo hall up and tell him you did it! And i have your confession in writing! No im just kidding.

Shit... I've posted most of the locations in the Maine DB... pleeeease don't Break and Enter into any of them, steal anything, etc... I love and frequent these places and would hate to not be able to go back. I've also been to the location in your story several times, and not once had to break anything to get in. Hell, it's the easiest location I've ever been to, each time going in broad daylight. Anyway, I live really close to you, I'd love to take you under my wing. With that being said...
I love this one!

Yeah the ones I REALLY care about I don't put in the DB, the ones I do are basically trashed and/or set for demo, and all are for full members only except one that just got torn down this week anyway. But still, I would rather not have people who represent UE to go trash the place like the local street punks do.

a agree but this is the Rookie section. would it be too much to ask for people to stop flaming and talking about how much of a bad Explorer he is. im sure alot of you have taken somthing other than a photo or video from the site and ripped off a board to get in. everyone makes mistakes. Welcome to the forums. i hope to see new posts from you although they will most likley be under a different username because of all the shit you got here.

Seems kinda contradictory to the spirit of the DB doesn't it? Yes....yes....this location is mine! I shall not share it with UER! MWHAHAHAHA! Just make the loacation viewable by full members only. I'd like to think we can trust our full members here...

| | | Again I question...isn't hoarding what you find/pictures you take against the very spirit the database is for? If not, then what exactly is the DB for? Posting your photos after a place has been torn down/trashed?
My personal opinion is places we find should be shared so others may partake in its glory. Yes, there is the risk some tard will screw things up for everyone following him, but there is also the risk you will clutch onto a location so tightly that before you know it, its gone and others which may have gone out of their way to view this place will no longer have the chance. I'm not trying to come off harsh, I'm simply trying to understand the mentality of the "don't put it on the DB or bad things will happen" crowd. EDIT: Just to contradict myself even further, if I'm exploring a new location with someone I always discuss with them if a place should be added or not. I always respect their wishes. If I am invited to explore with someone, unless they specifically say so, I will not add a location to the DB. I don't feel it is my right to add the location they invited me to explore with them. If they ever add it, then my photos will be waiting. Just my $0.02 [last edit 7/24/2009 2:18 AM by WarBird69 - edited 1 times]

| | | I'm with WarBird on this one. I do not post locations that have been "given" to me by other explorers if they feel strongly about it. If I find a place myself then hell yeah it's going on the DB, but only so full members can see. I think the mods do a fine job weeding out the bad eggs. I mean, I wouldn't have found half the places I've been to if it weren't for the DB or other explorers willing to share their spots.
