Fort Ord Military Stockade

Okay, made the trip and let me tell you, it is well worth it!

Finding the place was a bit hard and I actually ended up with one of the base historians at the Chamberlain Library (he photocopied an original architectural line drawing of the base with the "Confinement Facility" marked on it).

Once there, I walked into the office of the people who now use it and not only did they say sure to going in and photographing the place, but they also let me park inside the recreation yard. They are really cool there!

So, I took about a hundred pictures and as soon as I can get around to going through them, I'll post some. Right now I am on my Blackberry and will soon post a pic or two from this.

Sorry for the detail on the drawing, I took it with my phone. The guard tower shot looks better.

It's good to know the people at that construction company in front are kinda helpful.

Keep in mind when you're checking out the stockade that an older stockade, used as a WW-II era POW camp, isn't too far away.

Please do share more of your images. Here are a few of mine. It's a cool place, that many of us have spent some quality-time in.

It's an awesome place. Glad you could make it, and also glad to hear that the tenants are friendly enough to let you poke around.

Here's a bit about the history of the base, though I like Hoolie's blueprints better:

Also, here's my own set so far:

I suppose this is still on-topic, since it's the older stockade compound. I don't know when it dates back to, but it's a fairly standard design used during WW-II for POWs, and I think Fort Ord housed Germans & Italians. The reality often was that the POWs didn't want to escape, because they didn't like the war, & albeit with some major restrictions, their basic level of treatment in the POW camps was better than their quality of life they had in the axis military. But as this POW camp was actually located on a busy & active military post, it could have been for higher-security threats like nazi/SS or troops that'd made escape efforts elsewhere.

Ohhh, can you please PM me with the location for that one. I would like to hit that next. Do you know if there is any grafitti from the prisoners that were kept there anywhere?

Oh yeah, gotta be homeboys with a general & drop his name in order to do anything on Fort Ord. The post just looks like it's been closed for about 15 years -- that's part of a classified cover-story, and the sneaky troops are there hiding (some disguised ass CSU-MB students). When crafty people with heightened intellect & senses like Jones & I have snooped there, we discovered the secret truth, and the only way we escaped with our lives is because we know Generals.

The MPs were about to strafe me from their AH-1 Cobra gunships but as soon as I dropped the names of my close friends General Electric, General Mills, General Motors, and even a minor visitation with General Tire in Canada years ago, they rendered some crisp salutes & left me alone.

Did you tell 'em you visited General Hospital to discuss what to do about General Wartz?
