To go it alone or not?

I've recently been interested in a couple of abandoned mills around the area. I have done a bit of recon and they both look like they should be easy enough to get into. However, I'm kind of wary of going by myself. I have tried, unsuccessfully to find another person to go with. Several people have expressed interest, but then backed out before actually going to see it and I'm getting frustrated.

Should I just say to hell with it and go myself? I'm sort of new at this so I don't really know exactly how risky these mills are.

Well, even if you end up going alone, you can always let one or two people know where you're going, and when you expect to be back.

I guess that's what I'm gonna have to end up doing. I have one more guy lined up, but if he backs out I'm thinking can make it up there on Thursday. So hopefully I will have some interesting pictures then.

As long as it's not metawaffle, he'll follow you there and take pictures of you in the dark.

They'll come out awesome.. but it sounds creepy doesn't it!

But srsly, if they are not in dangerous areas I really wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure to let people know where and when you are going, and what time to expect you back. Bring a fully charged phone, and a good flashlight. Know where your exits are! And if you get sketched out for some reason, follow your instincts.

In my experience, the first solo explore is the hardest, and crossing the threshold into darkness alone is the worst part. Once you're committed and you're in, you should relax into it just fine.

Know your limits and truly understand that going alone means there's no one to bail you out, for a time at least. Over prepare and take extra precautions where you must, and DO maks sure someone reliable knows where you are. Once you're inside and "acclimated" to the place, it gets easier and easier. I have found that I have a much better sense of "situational awareness" when I'm alone.

Until recently I wouldn't go into an abandonment without a partner. Now I go just to make him jealous when he can't make it.

Have fun!

Take a phone, let someone know where you'll be and when you're due back, and then once you're there keep an eye out for anything that doesn't look or feel right - when in doubt, just get out. You can always go back later.

This has been covered many, many times. I suggest using the search feature.
