Anyone got info on this location? (Google link inside)

As I was driving back home on the 395 I saw this place. Seen it many times, but this time I noticed that the sign at the entrance to the place had been removed, and a couple "No tres-something-or-other" signs had been posted. What is this place and is it UE ready? Or have any of you been there already? Looks like a sweet location.

The layout plus remote location makes me think it may be some sort of correctional institution.

Perhaps if you look it up on Google Earth or Wikimapia, someone else has tagged what it is/was. Not much exciting in the Adelanto area besides the old Victorville AAF/George AFB.

Formerly Boron Air Force Base, later a federal minimum-security prison, now abandoned. Still an active radar station (north end of the facility).

I wondered why Boron has that little air museum downtown, I think I remember seeing a couple of old fighter aircraft there?? It's been many years.

You can see a million miles tonite, but you can't get very far.

Well thank you, but I must be an idiot-savant, cuz I didn't recognize the place in the aerial photo as the former Boron AFS, which I've seen from the ground numerous times.

There is only one active building. It's the tower with the golf ball radome with the FAA radar inside. Otherwise there is a school, a housing area, lodging buildings, maintenance buildings and two round buildings that once held a radar on top. Many signs are still there so it's easy to see what some buildings were used for.

It kinda reminds me of Skaggs Island.. just more intense, I guess. Is it worth a three hour drive?
