| | South Bay Campout -- June 5-7 < on 5/13/2009 5:44 AM >
| | | Click Here for Event Info We are camping out at the Sanborn County Park in Saratoga on June 5-7. All are welcome (friends, family, pets, etc)!! We will be arriving there around 2pm (til gates close), and enjoy some excellent food with the group.
Below is the schedule for you: Friday: - Arrive at the site between 2-8pm (gates close at sunset). - Enjoy a light dinner and gathering time with the group. Saturday: - Wake up to my special pancake recipe, with sausage and juice (toast available). - Spend all day at local abandonments. - Have lunch either at the site (for those staying behind) or in the area (for those exploring). - Return to camp before sunset, and enjoy a nice BBQ with sides and dessert. Sunday: - Have a light breakfast (eggs and toast). - Pack up camp to be out by 11am (checkout time).
What to Bring: - Tent - Sleeping Stuff - Personal Stuff - Light Jacket - Comfortable Shoes - Flashlight or Lantern (electric or propane) - Bug Spray/Repellant - $$ to support site and food costs - Camp or Beach Chairs - Drinks and snacks (may share with group) - UE Gear (camera, UE-appropriate clothing, flashlight, etc) - Games or Cards - FRS Radios: Ch 4, Code 17 (will use them around campsite and abandonments) - Friends, Family, Big Appetite, Happy Attitude... Yay!
I'd like to ask that individuals pay $8 and families (or small group) pay $10 to help contribute costs for the site and food. You're welcome to bring your own drinks and beer, but you will be responsible for your actions should the beer get to you. There are hiking trails, picnic areas (with huge lawns), a local hostel, and an on-site nature museum for those staying at the campsite on Saturday. Please RSVP (Yes or Maybe) at the link above (or on the events page) so I know how many sites to reserve/pay for. Each site is $15/night, so if you'd like to contribute more that the above suggested cost, we'd be very grateful. Any questions, comments, or discussions, post below. Again, all are welcome (even non-UER members), and we hope to see you next month at the campgrounds!

If there is even the slightest possibility of waking up to Ryan's sausage, I would be sleeping with my Benelli M1 Super 90!
Other than that, the event sounds good, I'll probably just stop by on Saturday.

Just FYI, I don't think there is any sort of universal standardization of 'Privacy Codes' for FRS radios -- a Motorola TalkAbout FRS radio's privacy code 17 isn't necessarily going to be the same CTCSS as a Cobra FRS radio's privacy code 17.

If there are any non-meat people attending, they can bring their own food, and we can cook it for them (come at least 1 hour before dinner - PM me for dinner times, etc) As for helping with food, I will be making a meal list in my next post. If you can help with anything, let me know then. Either $$ or food items are fine. We will be going to the store prior to Friday's arrival and setup.

I plan on going up. I still have all the camping gear I borrowed for a bridge to nowhere trip recently. If you come I figure 50 dollars each for gas. [last edit 5/23/2009 9:44 PM by robk700 - edited 1 times]

| | | I currently have five confirmed, and several maybe's. I just want to add that the sites are filling up quickly, so if you think you're going, or even a 90% chance of going, please change your RSVP on the event list so I can count how many more sites we need. I'm also gonna ask that you contribute at least $8-10 per person for food and site costs. Each site reservation costs me $30, and the food is gonna end up around $70. -- I can't afford to pay for it all. So if you know you're coming 100% sure, please RSVP. -- If you want to help pay ahead of time, I accept PayPal or checks & money orders via mail. I know I'm asking for $$ up front, but I don't want to send people away because we didn't have an accurate count for the campers attending.
Let me ask you this:
- If you are spending the night, Please RSVP with the "Will Attend" status so I can reserve sites.
- If you are just attending for Saturday's explore or for the food (not overnight), I don't need an update.
Any questions or would like to submit your $$ to me early, PM me or post here. Thanks everyone!

| | | I'm going to be leaving the 3rd and pass through the big sur and then afterwards the ghost town filled desert. Maybe vise versa. If anyone wants to split gas let me know. I'm probably gonna camp most of the way back and forth to save money. [last edit 5/31/2009 5:01 AM by robk700 - edited 1 times]

| | | Official Camp Schedule Friday 2pm-8pm: Arrive at camp 2pm-8pm: Camping Games around the park (frisbee golf, horseshoes, board games) 8pm: Light Dinner 10pm: Night Hike (flashlights optional due to full moon)
Saturday 8am: Full Pancake Breakfast 11am: Leave for UE sites 1pm: Lunch in the city (sandwiches available for those staying behind) 6pm: Start heading back to camp 8pm: BBQ Dinner & Dessert Sunday 9am: Mini-Breakfast 11am: Pack up and leave camp 1pm: Arrive at Loma 4pm: Camping Trip officially over...
Times are not set in stone, but are approximate. If you plan to attend but not stay over, this should serve as guidelines for you if you wish to join us during the day/night. When you come to the park gate, look for the "UER" flyer. It will have the site number and other info on there... There will be a parking fee to enter, and the stub must be visible on your dash (or fines will occur). -- If spending the night, just pay for "extra vehicle" fee. If you are staying for any of the meals, we ask that you contribute at least $5 to help with food. If you plan to spend the night, we ask that you pay $8, which covers both the site cost and food. This will help reimburse the large costs for food and the site (with reservation fees). See you there!! ** Any specific questions, please PM me. Thanks!

| | | (Edited to remove quote) We will go one of the days, we just can't stay to camp - but it's not a long drive to the site. Bill is an oldster (as you and some other explorers know) and needs to literally come home and take tons of meds at night lol. And I'm sure heartburn in the woods wouldn't be good. What is the difficulty level of the planned abandonments? [last edit 6/5/2009 6:46 AM by Sand - edited 1 times]

Easy to Moderate. Some old school stuff that hasn't been visited in a year or more, and others that are new and a taste of what NOCOPEX will offer.
I will check my PM's and this thread one last time before 9am on Friday. After that, I won't have UER access and can only be contacted by FRS radio (as noted in above posts) within a 1 mile radius of the park. For those who have my cell, I don't think I have reception up there, but will try to check my voicemail at least twice on Friday. Once in town on Saturday, I can be reached by cell (and may check my PM's once if possible). Hope to see everyone there at some point of the event!!
