The guy or guys that did this are fucking scum.

If it's a loner who did it, what a rotten shithead. So lonely and disturbed he has to destroy something just to feel better about his own shitty life.

If it's a group of guys that did it, what a bunch of rotten shitheads. They traversed many miles up a rocky gorge just to burn a historical place up.

What bothers me is that I bet it was the same group of folks that have been burning buildings in the Trona/Ridgecrest area. I guess they weren't happy burning up their own shitty buildings, they had to reach out and get some attention.

"Boo hoo, mommy didn't love me, I'm going to set this building on fire."

People are weird.

This really has me pissed off.

I fucking hate people.

When Tonie Seger died a couple years ago (the lady who watched over the Burro Schmidt Tunnel property), it only took like 3 days for people to go to her abandoned house, break in and steal half the shit inside. Within a week, the vultures stole almost anything they could carry away.

Scum.

People are weird.

Dude chill out, yes it's a massive tragedy, I've been dying to go out there for years (something of a fascination with serial killers). Did you miss this part of the article?

Park officials said the fire might have started last weekend; it was reported Wednesday. No cause has been identified and the fire is under investigation, Baldino said.

The cabin is in a remote area of the park and is used by backcountry campers. It had a stove and a fireplace, but there is no water source in the area. If the fire was inadvertently set, there was no water available to put it out.

For all you know it was some guy out there camping, over primed his camp stove and spilled white gas all over the wooden shack. I'm not saying I condone this either, but it could have as easily been arson as an accident. Either way it fucking sucks!

I was always curious as to whether I could fit in that little cabinet like Charlie did, only I wouldn't be dumb and I would make sure my hair was hidden as well.

Imagine if his hair fell down that day and was hidden like the rest of him, he would have evaded capture yet again, what an awesome alternate ending that is...

I have a somewhat misunderstood fascination with serial killers as well, insanely sound. Especially Charles Manson...I even had an argument on here one time about how he....wasn't all that bad

I personally like Gacy.

Manson, as "insane" as he was, he was also a genius.

This is only an example of how we need to make the effort to go see these places while we still can because they won't be there forever. Look at the post about the Moulin Rouge Casino here in Las Vegas nobody got angry even though it was the only good location around. We where just happy that we had the chance to see it when we could. Life Happens is I guess is what I am trying to say. Get out there and explore!

I'm thinking the insanity outweighs the genius.
Him being a genius is debatable. I'll take the side of..... not so much.

I don't know. The article headline says "Suspicious Fire." Doesn't seem like it can be accidentally burned. It's just a shack I know, it's just a historical shack which I enjoyed visiting from time to time.

Having seen Tonie Segers shack ransacked just 2 or 3 days after her death, this kind of "historical destruction" just strikes a nerve with me. Yeah I know it's illogical but I can't help it.

The phrase "Suspicious Fire" generally means that they don't believe the fire was caused by a naturally occurring event. No it wasn't a just a shack it was the one that one of the most notorious serial killers of all time made home. It's a tragedy. Even still until the investigation is done, no way to know...

Why not rebuild it? I'm down to volunteer time and resources this summer. Some folks rebuilt my other favorite Manson Cabins after years of disuse.

Yeah, but this one was special. I have to take a day to mourn it this weekend.

Agreed. It's definitely a tragic loss. I hope the person(s) responsible gets bit in the ass by a rattlesnake next time they're out there.
