I read a few posts on a site called Lost America. There were some great shots of an abandoned missile silo in Nebraska. Unfortunately, the fellow taking the pictures was caught and charged with Felony Trespass! Watch out if you go touring those areas as those they are monitored even they are no longer in use.

it's a fire station.

I doubt the statements said here are true regarding that said person.

Agreed. I doubt the Lost America guy has a felony trespass charge.

Are you sure you read that on Lost America? I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure he doesn't have a felony trespassing charge. He usually he tries to get permission for most sites he shoots.

The Hawthorne Plaza is still there. It's been sitting there idle for many years. They use it occasionally for filming. They filmed Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift there. I heard there were plans to open it up and place some stores there like a Sears.

I believe they placed a city office the northern most part of the mall and there is a quiznos there as well. The Hawthorne Police Dept is directly across the street from it.

LA96C is the designation, I think. It is now part of the park system. It was the communication site for the Van Nuys Nike site, now owned by the National Guard. This was not a silo and the Nike used underground Magazines with elevators, no silos in Los Angeles, only some abandoned magazines.

Hawthorne plaza was possible 5 years ago when Alex and I did it, and again when we showed it to a fellow explorer from Aussieland and almost got caught by renovation workers on the north end, but I don't know about it now.
