|  | | | i was in Rope Mill Park the other day and i decided to cross the river there, when i did i found all these old building foundations and retaining walls. So i explored a little more, i eventually found an old canal system for diverting water. its quite large and im guessing it has something to do with marble since there were pieces of it everywhere. There is only one place i found where you could actually go inside, other than that its all over grown but still is very cool. i found old bricks and tiles and bottles everywhere. Really a very interesting place!

| | | | Did a bit of research a few years ago about Cherokee County, including Woodstock for a now abandoned website about Cherokee County. Rope Mill Park was once the site of a rope mill, sometimes they called that road River Road because it led to a river before the mill was there. It was started by an Englishman in the 1860's, although that part of you photographed probably doesn't date that far back. I believe the mill shut down in the '40s. At one time that area consisted of the mills, rock dam, warehouses and mill worker and owners houses.

but i noticed all the abandoned homes near and around. my guess is the suburbs came leaving all the relatively new looking homes to waste as well as some old stores.
some day ill get the courage to go through a few places out near by. but as i slowed down a bit to look over at a home i noticed a plump cop giving me a look that made me think he knew my plan.
(please excuse that i will always bring up the evils of suburbs when talking about woodstock)
