| | | Largest gatherings of Urban Explorers in one place? < on 3/26/2009 1:52 PM >
| | | I have just come from setting up for our awards night that we have every year. The most we have had is 150+ people although probably about a third of those would be part time explorers or just friends of explorers. I know I could do a search and check it out myself, but what are some of the larger U.E. gatherings? Siolo has mentioned a newbies expo in Sydney that had more than 50 people (how many was it Silo?). I not trying to start a debate on whether it's better to explore in groups or not - this is a party/awards night, not exploring. Cheers, Doug

I would conservatively estimate somewhere between 75-100 people. That of course is over the weekend, but there were a shitload of people there Saturday night.

| | | Rana's mansion parties draw a large crowd. Though not all are explorers. Some models, some are the lazy friends of explorers. OPEX '58 had about 40 people. Largest party (non exploring) I've ever been too... 10,000 people at one house. UCONN at Halloween...holy fuck.

^^^^^^^ Right. More explorers need to learn to use an edit box. I personally find them unwatchable if not edited right to the good stuff. oh...and it better have an awesome soundtrack.

An awards night for the Cave Clan in Australia. I'll some more stuff about them later (I've only just got home from them). This year's was probably the biggest yet. Someone did a count of 170 but lost track (and people kept showing up after that) but about 180 over the night would be a conservative estimate. Held in a drain in Melbourne, the photo below was taken at 2am (a lot... maybe half, leave right after the Gold has been presented, as they have to catch public transport home). More pics/details to come.

| | | 30-40 people at a meet once. It was honestly way too hectic and from now on I can't stand gatherings of more than 15 or so people. It's impossible to successfully co-ordinate and entertain that many people.

Yeah, most locations are better with just a few people. As I said in the original post, the award night didn't involve actual exploring. Cheers

Most of them were around 50 ppl, comprising half newbies n half CC folks. The biggest was 112 people down Fortress, i know, lol, cos i counted em all as they climbed down the manhole shaft. It was the last big newbies expo, as we realised we were becoming a public liability, being unable to deal with such large numbers. It was also ages ago, mid 2003 i think. There's occasionally national British meets over here that exceed 40 people and i think Opex 94 and 95 had around 40-50 folks.
