| | | Wow, it's been about 3 or 4 months since I last posted here, but I'm back for the time being. I recently stumbled across this [beautiful] abandonment in Japan...That everyone most likely knows about, but still...When I first encountered pictures of it [mere pictures!], bricks were shat. After doing a bit of research, I discovered it was to become a tourist attraction [Imagine, my gem that I had not yet cut, to be defiled by others, all day every day...]. My disappointment imminent, I turned to UER, thinking I could find some pictures of this place [as it's impossible to go there myself, I'm only 14]. Anyway, back on topic: I'm sure you all know the history of the 'Battleship island Gukanjima, abandoned completely in 1975-6 (I deduce, as the mines closed in 1974, if anyone knows the correct date, please tell me) due to the slowly collapsing coal economy of Japan [it had coal mines, petroleum eventually took over]. It had many references in Japanese Television shows, and video games; none of which really stand out [other than the FF8 reference] for me. So, this is basically a thread dedicated to the Battleship Island- Gukanjima. Post pictures [if anyone managed to get in, as you can't just waltz in], stories- anything really, as long as it's about this dignified, beautiful area of decayed memories. Links/Most of my sources: Gukanshima odyssey, a great site, with a great 'soundtrack' [...if anyone finds a way to download it, tell me...please?]: http://www.gunkanj...yssey.com/GS21.htm The "official site", I guess [can't read Japanese...]: http://www.gunkanjima.com/ More galleries, less info... http://www.louiscy...als.com/index.html
