| | Peter Cooper non existant? < on 12/1/2008 2:29 AM >
| | | So I was talking to a few friends, and they were doing some research on ol' Peter Cooper. We stumbled across a few sites that rose a few eye brows. The first one:. http://goliath.ec...00051478-page.html now, if you copy and paste that address into google maps. You will get something that looks like this:. http://maps.google...=h&z=18&iwloc=addr Now, this is the site of what this board, and the rest of the internet knows as "Peter Cooper Glue Factory" If you type that address into live maps, you will get a similar image, pointing at the same factory. Now, even though the website was supposedly updated in September of 08, It raises my curiosity if this building is in fact home to the old Hynite Company, and that the foundation south of this building is actually the old Peter Cooper Glue Factory. http://books.googl...ct=result#PPA54,M1An article written on the factory stated that it burned to the ground in 87' which leads me to believe the factory north of the foundation was mistaken for the glue factory, and the name stuck. This would also explain the many things left in the factory that would make no sense as to belonging in a glue factory. If anyone has any information on it, please post here. Now, we also stumbled upon this link. http://www.zycon....mpanyDetails/8285 which is a profile page for the old Wabash Alloys plant in Oak Creek. Now, this also intrigues me because many people say that this factory has been abandon since 1991. Now, Wabash alloys is a national chain, so that explain why they have an actual website. And though the Wabash website does not list their locations, it does make sense why google maps does not show a Wabash alloys plant in oak creek. ( If it is in fact abandon ) I just thought that I would bring up a small discussion on this, and see what people thought. [last edit 12/1/2008 3:51 AM by bash - edited 1 times]

| | | From what I know about the "glue factory" is that the Hynite building was actually used to make resin for fire-proofing wood, specifically for use in wooden train bridges. The building to the north of the Hynite building could possibly have produced gelatin as there is a sign on the side of it that says, "Gelatin Receiving" though I could be mistaken. In the actual Hynite building, I found a logbook inside a breaker box that was printed on letterhead entitled, "Hynite Corporation" (which lead me to call it the Hynite building). Searching for Hynite Corporation leads you to that building. I searched the EPA's website in regards to superfund locations to see if it was abandoned because of toxic waste, but it was not listed as a superfund site. They did list it as a site of caution as the area is filled with PCBs that were used during the production of resin. As for the glue factory burning down, my friend told me that she believed that the glue factory did in fact burn down and is no longer there. | | | Thanks very much for the info. If this is true, then almost half the internet is incorrect with what that building actually is. I have not once seen a post calling it Hynite corp, but I am almost certain that that is actually what it is. Thank you very much. Edit:. So I was browsing the net, and stumbled upon this most fascinating write up. I believe that this solves the issue of what building is what, once and for all. The link is here if you wish to read through it. http://www.atsdr.c...ertiesHC242008.pdf It is a tad long though, so I will sum it up for anyone who is interested. The image shown below dictates the property lines of Old Peter Cooper, and the Hynite Factory. The Factory that many believe is the old Glue factory is in fact an old Nitrogen plant that produced Nitrates for fertilizer. The Glue factory is north of the property, and as some have already said, it looks more like a glue factory then the Hynite plant did. ( simply for the fact, that's what it was. ) I hope this helps anyone who wishes to tour the buildings. It looks that the Hynite plant is in the process of being torn down, and in the mean time, it is very active with what we know is a film crew, and an asbestos removal crew. So be careful. ( Not insinuating that it is a good idea to go in the first place of course ) As for old Peter Cooper, I am not sure as to how much longer it will be there. It seems that Oak Creek is trying hard to push the owners of the properties to either seal the buildings off, or tear them down. Will be interesting to see what happens in the up coming years.

| | | If I wanted to know that, I'd look at the tax records of the company... which are probably in federal and state archives. There should also be entries in the EPA database because the place used highly controlled substances for processing.

| | | From time to time places go under, other places buy them and use them for different purposes. In different places in time any given building could go by several names. Ahhhh the space-time continium. ALso Hynite is full of ghosts. The cop told us so. Note to self, don't trespass when some other ass parks right in front and is leaving while you are entering. And if you do, don't leave one guy on the ground taking pictures. They wouldn't have found us where we were......

| | | lol, good to know. When we went, it was during the day. No ghosts or eerie feelings, but oh well. As far as entering while someone else is leaving, I must say I would have turned my ass around and waited for another day. And when I go with my guys, we always stick together, being less spread out works best, less places to be found. All good tips and tricks of the trade. Thanks for posting.

| | | None of us were from town, so we went. Talking to the police is not a bad experience at all. Talking is better than arresting, and jail gives you time to catch up on your sleep.

| | | much agreed, if you think you are found, it is better to just talk to them and get a ticket then run and commit a felony. Besides, we all have to catch up on sleep every now and then.
