7 Abandoned Cities and Places in Asia

Abandoned buildings, properties and places take on remarkably different aesthetic character and are treated differently from one culture to the next - particularly in Asian nations where beliefs about the cultural role of architecture or the whims of a dictator can vary greatly. From South Korea to North Korea, Cambodia to Thailand and Azerbaijan to Hong Kong here are seven amazing oriental and subcontinental abandonments from the Near East to the Far East, from skyscraper hotels and pod cities to shopping malls and amusement parks and everything in between.

I have to admit, his site has brought me a lot of hits.

There have been problems here on the past with accusations that he steals pictures. Read the comment by Tim.

The guy asked me for permission and I granted it. I'm wondering if he talked to Tupsumato as well. Not that this guy's particularly making a living off this site or anything.

There's going to be something bigger and cooler on www.darkroastedblend.com in a day or two that I've had a part in putting together, along with two other members of this site.

Bokkor Hill Station is a real gem of a place if you ever get the chance to go.
But I think it might be closed at the moment. Serious plans were afoot when i was there last year to turn the whole place into a giant resort.

If you decide to go bare in mind its a real bitch of a trip to the top!

There's a great abandoned place in Taiwan. It's the old gold mines with huge abandoned structures. I had a look on the outside. It's possible to op inside but I was by myself and Taiwan has some big old spiders which i didn't want to bump into!

It's not that serious. At least someone finds them interesting.

He always does. By all accounts the guy (and his team) is a COCK of the highest order.

http://weburbanist...uristic-factories/

Check out the comments on that one. Unfortunatly the comments by OT asking for his pictures to be removed were met with:

Oxygen Thief, you are a little boring, nogood prick…
Run back in that little ashole behind you.. go on… shu!

Now what the fuck kinda asshole goes about business that way, especially after STEALING someone's work?

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

So e-mail the guy. The reason he does it is because nobody who ever accuses him actually confronts him. When I saw other people complaining, I posted on his site using my real e-mail address, and he e-mailed me immediately saying "Whoa, are you serious?" The only reason he thinks it's okay is because nobody has ever complained properly. And he did seem reasonable to me.

You might want to check your facts there matey. I know for definite that OT not only politely requested its removal, but went as far as having a lawyers letter sent to the company.

His pictures are still there, hosted without credit. I gather others here (on UER*) have had a very similar experience.

Do you want me to e-mail the guy about it? He always replies very promptly to me. In fact, he was surprised when I left him a message, because I signed it with my own real name. He'd never received any complaints from anyone before leaving any contactable information.

And David Dong, just like Tupsumato, said that it wasn't worth the effort to contact him and complain.

Yeah, I remember you offered that service before matey. You can if you like, I guess?

Ask him how that went with OT and why he refused his request for removal. Better yet, ask him why he removed OT's comments but left the ones calling OT a 'no good prick' ? That's some balanced journalism.

I'd love to know why it is that he stole and used the pictures of a 'no good prick' in the first place?

Actually, you could just ask why he RIPS photos from others web pages and flickr, deliberately removes the water-mark and passes them off with no credit?

That might be a more concise question. I'm all ears for his answer!

First I'd like to point out that the comment supposedly left by OT was not in fact left by him, but more on that in a minute. Let's skip to the comment he is referring to which was left by someone calling themselves liquid - which was not me nor anyone involved with or connected to WebUrbanist:

liquid

Oxygen Thief, you are a little boring, nogood prick…
Run back in that little ashole behind you.. go on… shu!

Right after the comment as anyone can clearly see on the page is a comment left by me which is entirely polite, rational and invites any complaints to be directed to our contact form:

We are currently working to sort out a misunderstanding regarding the Beelitz portion of this post. In the meantime, please refrain from vulgar language or unsubstantiated claims in the comment system. Have a complaint? Please use our 'Contact' form. Thank you for your consideration.

Second, as for Oxygen Thief, I am sorry to see that yet another person was duped by the person who OT himself refers to as 'Mr. X' - and for anyone who doesn't believe me: feel free to contact OT directly via his website http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/ Here is an excerpt from an email he sent to me after the incident:

For the record, I'm the genuine "photographer going by Oxygen Thief" and I think your sites great, and don't have an issue with you using my pics in the way you have. My real name is ***** ******,[removed by racetraitor] and I run the 28dayslater website. We're getting a lot of problems caused by 'Mr X' and his friend 'Grimey' after they were banned.

Again, this can be verified independently and directly. At this point, however, it gets difficult to answer more questions. I see additional accusations regarding watermark-stripping and image-stealing without specific names, images or points of reference. I will say again as I have before that every effort is taken to credit artists and photographers properly and consistently and that anyone with a complaint is more than welcome to contact me directly - no one who has has been disappointed with the response they have gotten. Hopefully, however, this addresses the primary two issues appropriately: (1) the fact that it was not in fact WebUrbanist-related individuals who made that rude comment and (2) that OT has no issue with us and in fact appreciates our site and support.

That's a really nice email.

But it doesn't actually answer the question:

This doesn't address the main issue; that is reproducing (and re-hosting) someones original work without permission.

You know, in exactly the way your NOT supposed to do?

Maybe you could ask him about that?

I've got a better idea. Why don't you? He seems to have addressed it.

Maybe 'cause I don't have an interest in sticking up for the guys knock-off website? And as near as I can tell he doesn't 'seem to have addressed' that problem at all, in fact.

I find the site ignore-worthy for the same reasons outlined and you haven't swayed my opinion on that whatsoever RT.

Top marks for effort though.

In the email you posted, I don't see how he's addressed any thing with regard to him taking other people's images and reposting them without permission. The burden to prove he's not a complete tool is on you, not Turbo.
