J'habiterais St-Henri 1000 fois plutot que Westmount. Un vrai quartier avec de la vie, des usines, des cantines, des bars, des parcs pis des enfants qui jouent dans les ruelles avec les chats, rien a foutre des trottoirs tout propres et ennuyant passé 5pm de Westmount....

Je ne comprends pas pourquoi certaines personnes argumentent avec autant d'aggressivité sur ce sujet... C'est pas de condo de riche, c'est même très bas de gamme pour un spot aussi bien situé (en faisant abstraction de l'autoroute). C'est environ 125$/p.c. les condos que je regardais dernierement dans Monkland étaient à plus de 300$/p.c (non, j'ai pas acheté!)
Il faut être réaliste, St Henry est un coin super intéressant pour bien des acheteurs et les condoisations vont continuer (si l'économie crash pas avant!).

Ça leur donne bonne conscience, ils se croient "citoyens corporatifs responsables" et ils ont peut-être une petite subvention par la bande. Tant qu'à faire de la momification avec des bâtiments qui n'ont plus beaucoup d'intérêt, on devrait sauvegarder ceux qui en ont un réel (qu'est-ce qui arrive avec la maison Notman, le théâtre Empress ou le château Dufresne?) et employer le génie de créateurs modernes pour bâtir quelque chose de nouveau à la place des anciens bâtiments. Sauvegarder le patrimoine, c'est aussi faire des choix de pertinence.
Quant aux bobos et à la gentrification de St-Henri, c'est un autre débat...

Turcot plan hits delays
Public hearing put off to next year. Environmental impact studies not ready on proposal to replace elevated highway

Public hearings that were to have been held this fall on the proposed modernization of Quebec's busiest highway interchange have been pushed back into early 2009.
As a result, the original July 2009 start date for the planned six-year overhaul of the Turcot interchange, in Montreal's west end, has been thrown into uncertainty.
"Unfortunately, the environmental-impact studies are still not ready at the moment and so we don't know when the hearings will be held; but it should be the winter of 2009," said Nicole Ste-Marie, a provincial Transport Department official.
Ste-Marie disclosed the delay in the start of Bureau d'audiences publiques sur l'environnement (BAPE) hearings in a telephone interview in connection with a street protest Friday night in St. Henri over the Turcot project.
The protest took the form of a street party on Cazelais St., in a part of St. Henri known as Tannery Village.
Homes on the north side of the street, as well as adjoining buildings on adjacent streets, are to be demolished to rebuild the Turcot interchange, mostly at surface level.
About 160 housing units are to disappear overall.
The elevated interchange, which opened in April 1967, connects Highways 15, 20 and 720. There are also three satellite interchanges at de la Vérendrye Blvd., Angrignon Blvd. and in Montreal West.
The interchange was originally built for $25 million; the proposed modernization, announced in July 2007, is projected to cost $1.5 billion.
With 280,000 vehicles a day using the interchange, it is the busiest in Quebec.
Ste-Marie said there is another question still unresolved with the Turcot project - the government still isn't sure whether it will carry out the modernization work as part of a public-private partnership.
"We're still waiting for the evaluations from the Environment Department first ( the impact studies) before going forward with that aspect," she said.
The government had asked Pricecooperswaterhouse last winter for advice on whether it was feasible to do the Turcot modernization under the PPP model.
The firm reported back with a recommendation in late May that wasn't made public.
All the government has said publicly is that any PPP project would not entail user tolls; the government would instead pay a private operator an annual fee over a period of years in return for its building and maintaining the new Turcot complex.
Under provincial law, all sorts of different development projects must be submitted for BAPE review.
BAPE's first step will see information meetings held over a period of six weeks, with all public documents related to the project being made available for public review.
People will be able to ask questions of experts at these meetings, but only to clarify information already contained in the public record.
In the second step of the process, the project backers will have to defend their proposal under questioning.
In St. Henri and Côte St. Paul, people who live near parts of the elevated Turcot interchange are worried about the likelihood of increased noise in their neighbourhoods.
"It's going to be louder," said Liz Colford, 21, a member of Cazelais Libre, a community group.
Colford said the BAPE hearings are the last chance local residents will have to influence the final plans.

| | | | Very good fundamental question. Maintenance of these structures in Quebec over the last 40 years - and elsewhere in North America; remember Minneapolis? - has been a disgrace. The petition is not to stop something being done at Turcot but to find a way to do it without destroying a neighborhood. Signing the petition is about demanding that such projects be carried out in an intelligent manner with public support.
They are planning to rebuild Turcot but lower, then they will landfill it. They could save close to a billion by simply rebuilding what they have, but, they argue, there would still be high maintenance costs. Lol. Right, like why start paying for maintenance costs now when we almost got away without it for 40 years? Let's spend those maintenance costs on rebuilding now! Perhaps a rebuilt Turcot will last the 75 years or so it "should", but it does not bode well for future generations of highway overpass drivers in Quebec. Sad and stupid and we keep voting for them.

Hmm… Je dirais que non, question de sécurité. Il y a énormement de débris, incluant du verre et des bouteilles rouillés de peinture. J’ai passé mon temps à regarder où je mettais les pieds, alors j’imagine en talons haut… pour avoir déjà été modèle d’un jour dans de meilleurs conditions, et avoir trébuché quelques fois, ce serait plutôt risqué.
Je trouve que les bâtiments vide ont quand même un intérêt. Un dimanche midi nous étions deux, au rez-de-chaussée, perchés sur la terre qui semble avoir été labourée par des géants, et nous avons témoins d’une étrange brume qui n’a duré que quelques minutes. Un moment magique dans cette cathédrale de béton. Vivement la neige et la givre, que j’y retourne pour y trouver le lieu transformé.

Le château dufresne est un musée, qui accueille présentement une exposition très intéressante sur l'industrialisation du quartier Hochelaga.
Le Cinema V ne possède plus d'éléments architecturaux intéressants èa l'intérieur. Une entreprise èa but non lucratif essaie depuis quelques années de le rénover.
