Looking for stuff in the Alpharetta area...

Hello all
I've just recently gotten really intrigued with urbexing. I've always had a fascination with abandoned buildings ever since I was a little kid, but I always thought it was just a weird little thing that only I cared about. Needless to say I was happy to discover entire websites devoted to the subject.

I've already checked out a little abandoned house that was pretty boring, and I'm looking for some really good sites in Alpharetta. Before you all freak out, I KNOW I will not be given handouts. That's not what I'm looking for. The problem is I don't have a car, which leaves me with my bike as my fastest method of transportation. I'm just looking for someone to point me in the right direction so I don't have to ride around for hours for nothing. Obviously I keep my eyes open whenever I ride in my parents cars, but we rarely stray from busy main roads.

The area immediately around my neighborhood is quite rural, and I know there just HAS to be some stuff. As I said, there is one little house I found, and I'm sure there's more in the area. I know you all are not very newb-friendly, but a little help would be appreciated.
Thanks

P.S. VERY pissed off that Hopewell School was just torn down. That looked like a great site and it was within riding distance of my house

I haven't personally found my way further west than Gainesville, so I don't know the area, but rural Georgia is teeming with abandonments. Considering that Alpharetta is already in the LDB, I assume there's probably a good bit more that only full members can view. If you're having trouble finding things on your own, then post around and apply for a full membership.

Another option is always trying to find explorers in your area. (Simply bringing it up at lunch with your friends works; heck, I found other local explorers using facebook.) Who knows, maybe you'll find someone with a car.

And of course there's always the option of infiltrating active buildings. Not all UE requires abandonments. Rooftops and construction zones are UE too.

One good way to find abandonments is with maps.live.com, or google street maps (when available.) Using maps.live.com you can switch to "birdseye" view to scout the area using decent aerial photographs.

There's also a hell of a alot of stuff on finding abandonments in the tutorials forum, if you search around.

Not sure if that was helpful or redundant, but just keep your eyes open.

I'm 16, but I won't have the money for a car for a while.

Thanks programmer. I was out a little today and I found a house that looked like a perfect candidate. It was along a busy road, but totally blocked by shrubbery. I didn't go in because I was tired, but hopefully I'll check it out soon, maybe post some pics. And yes, google earth is quite useful

Their are some small places to check out in the Cummings area. If you drive around on the main roads you'll find several.

If you can keep your eyes open, you'd be surprised how many things are abandoned.

Like I said before, I use my bike. I highly doubt I would ride all the way to Cumming for an abandonment, unless it was REALLY good (i.e. amusement park, asylum, or some other interesting building)

What's UE without walking?

Ever try following an underground river?

Those things can go on for miles without an exit.

Alpharetta's kind of a dead area, now that Hopewell's gone.
Remember, the area surrounding the town was all farmland until the corporate offices started moving in, so there's not much around besides shanties - and even those are far fewer than they were years ago.
I've seen lots of shanties in the Cumming area, and I think there's still a school up there, but I don't know where it is.

Yeah I've seen a ton of shanties now that I've started to look more, nothing more than that though. It seems I won't really be able to get into this until I have a car. I just need to get out to some of these houses before they get torn down, because I KNOW they will.

Sometimes these houses are very interesting. Sometimes they're just four walls and a ceiling (if that).
IMO, they're always worth a look.

Yeah, shanties on every block, basically.

It's funny. When I was a kid, my step dad got a job in Woodstock. It was like he worked in another country. I still can't get over the idea that Woodstock is a million miles away, even though I live about 2 minutes from it.

Haha, same with me and a town called Grayson. My old house was literally right on top of it, but whenever I hear that name, even when I lived in my old house, it felt like it was really far away.
