Mohave Preserve Part 2?

Is anyone interested in a Mohave Preserve retake this winter? I dont mean a retake where everyone says they will be there, then not make it last minute. Im talking about a real serious get together with 4 wheeling and camping in the cool winter desert. Im thinking about some time in November.

Hell, I would love to, but no guarantees on my part. Its an 1800 mile round trip drive for me, and with gas the way it is, I'm sure as Hell not bringing my Suburban. We'll see how the schedule looks, and whether or not the Samurai is up and running.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

You could drive to Phoenix or Flagstaff and ride the rest of the way with me. Just an idea.

Sweet, so ill pick the most inconspicuous weekend in November (ie no holidays) and set it up. Im thinking same exact agenda, same campground as last time since we didnt cover any of it except 1 mine, and i wouldnt mind going back to it again.

I'd love to go but it depends on if I can afford the gas by the time November rolls around.

Yeah gas is a major PITA on trips like these. What i do (since i have a 4x4) is fill up my tank and spare gas can in Barstow since its almost the same price as the city. I never ever buy gas in Baker, since its always near $1 more per gallon than anywhere else. I only go there in an emergency. My Pathfinder is fairly kind on gas at 17-20 mpg, which is excellent for the load and people it carries. Its a little slow, but it gets there and it has no problems offroad. I think i can make it from LA to Barstow to fill up on 1/4 tank, and make it out of the Mohave Preserve on the last 1/4 tank or my 5 gallon spare. It should be a $150 or less round trip from LA for me.

If I'm in town I'm down for trading gas. We might be shooting in Narlins by then. (crosses fingers)

So lets pick a date.

Nov 8-9

Nov 15-16

Nov 22-23

Nov 29-30

Dec 6-7

Dec 13-14

All dates are Saturday and Sunday. Of course some of us would probably show up on Friday.

Thanksgiving doesnt seem to be a huge money spending holiday, so how about the weekend following the 25th? That would be November 29-30. If that doesnt work, then December 6-7 is my next choice. My family wont be celebrating a huge Thanksgiving, so ill be able to get out of here no problem come the weekend.

If those dates dont work, i prefer to go early November.

Day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. Just saying. I don't shop at that time however.

Me either. I worked at Wal Mart when i was 19, and ive seen some pretty down low dirty shit when it comes to shoppers on the day after Thanksgiving. Ever since then, i never had to the urge to wait outside for 48 hours in a line with people who would stab me just to get a $99 27" TV.

Well, the Samurai is up and running, and I'm in shakedown phase now, sorting out the little stuff (ie I currently only have intermittent on my wipers). Should be fine there. Sure is nice to have a 4x4 that gets 32 mpg!

However, Thanksgiving is a big holiday in my family. We have people flying in from everywhere. I would have less trouble getting loose on my wife's birthday! I'm not going to make this one.

Ya'll enjoy!
