Sign Graveyard found!

It's actually not that hidden but it is near a police department and a very bad part of town. Also, since there's a large amount of homeless people around you can't really venture into the area too much (the state has a homeless assistance center right by so there seems to be a million or so come feeding time). Here are some pics that I took over the fence.

Location of the Sign Graveyard

This is what it looks like when you drive up on it.

If anyone has any better pics let me know - there's some seriously cool signs piled up in this yard.

Just saw this in an episode of No Reservations. Anthony Bourdain was shown the whole thing. There's gotta be a legit way to get in because it seems like you should be able to tour it.

I'm sure with the numbers of movies that have shot here, there might be some $$$ changing hands for the legit access.... Then again I think LostAmerica has shot it before, so he'd be the person to ask...

No you guys are all talking about something else. The one Anthony Bourdain went to and the one that was in Vegas Vacation is another place. There they have all the signs set apart and they light them up at night. This place is a big fenced area with a bunch of No Tresspassing By Order of LVPD signs. Most the signs were just thrown in piles and such. I took a bunch of photos and most of them suck due to me shooting over a fence but when I took them home and put them on the computer I could tell there were some cool signs in there. Nevada Palace had theirs that just came down a year ago, there was an old Sahara sign and I saw the old Binions horseshoe in a big pile.

Legit. I went thru YESCO marketing to get access in 2000 to their yard. One night, and I had a bunch of gear failures, including shearing the cable release off in the camera!

They gave all those signs to the LV Neon Museum, and they moved them to that lot the Canadian found downtown. YESCO built a new warehouse on the lot.

In 2002 I contacted the LVNM and spoke to marketing. They loved my photography and gave me a night in there. There were homeless guys living in there and one of them ended up torching the Mr. O'Lucky figure and it got destroyed shortly after I shot there. Security is tighter now, I understand. They are stricter about access, wanting to get paid for any photo shoots. Hollywood pays big $ to shoot in there. I was lucky to get in legit, both times.

I had a feeling they might want cash now.... That's kind of sad, but perhaps the way of the world... Thanks for the info!

So, the other place is the Las Vegas Sign Museum - that's the place with the signs lit up I think. Well, since 2000 the sign storage area is definately sealed. There's a large fence surrounding the whole area and and you can't see through it. There was a road that went in between the two lots and but now it's closed (the road is the road sign). I shot my pictures over the fence and kind of quick. It was also really sunny so that's why my shots kinda suck. The ones on Flickr are really nice. It's also nice that they let you in there. As I said There's some new signs (atleast since 2000) that weren't in there when you were in there and I'm sure some of the stuff has been moved around.

You should make your photos smaller CanadianRhian... They're way too huge.

Let's see if we can get them 1 pixel by 1 pixel.

i see the recently tore down stardusts's sign in there, in pieces that is.

i went to a magic show the other night by steve wyrick. he claims to have 27 original signs from early vegas on his property.

I think i might try and drive by here in a day or two.

I know my pictures are small - I can't seem to put really large photos like you have done on some of your posts. For some reason I have to shrink down my jpegs so they can fit. I can only post 100 and for some reason some of my photos only shrink to 103 so I just shrink them down to email size. I don't know why they don't blow up larger like some of my other photos.
If you want to see larger photos - I'll gladly email them.

I just looked at her photos again, the signs don't seem to be stacked and piled up like when I was there. The "Jackpot Modern Casino" doesn't have the pool player in front of it like my photos.
