Some questions about Star City, Russia

I know there are a few Russians on this site. I was wondering if anyone has been to Star City. I really want to go, but am not sure what the protocol is. Do you have to receive special permission to be there?

As with Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan I believe there is a military checkpoint to enter Star City. If not that, you can't just enter buildings there.

If you're really interested this is a reputable company to deal with as far as getting permission:

I've had friends do Star City and the Cosmodrome and the Cosmodrome is more along the lines of what I'd enjoy. They can pretty much arrange anything you want at Star City or Baikonur if you work with them.

From what I've seen, Star City is just a bunch of buildings used for housing and training.

All the cool stuff (rocket parts, hangars, launch pads, etc) is at Baikonur.

And their tour of Baikonur takes you to some abandoned stuff. If you're more interested in stuff no longer used, the tour operators can accomodate your request and will try to cater to your needs.

Baikonur is on my to do list! It'd be nice to do a Pripyat/Moscow/Baikonur trip with a stint on the Trans-Siberian Railroad someday!

I was actually reading that website before.

Thanks for your response. I keep on finding different information about how tight the regulations are, but since the space race is over, I imagine, so is the secrecy. I understand that it is mostly housing, training, etc. I guess I am more interested in the propaganda and pomp.

I am interested in the same trip as you, but I would add the DPRK. I really want to go to the DPRK, it is the top of my list, but I am scared. I have no class and no fancy attire and as I understand it, you have to have class and fancy attire whenever you near a monument to Kim Jong-il and they are plentiful. I think I could deal with the rooms being bugged and your inability to go anywhere without an escort, but I don't think I could ever pass the class test.
