| | | Posted by gr8fzy1 I know what you mean Skank, I hold that K1000 and I FEEL like a photographer. And I only shot digital because I had no financial choice. I STILL don't, but my mom assures me that the film isn't gonna be THAT expensive...That most of the money I'll spend will be for processing the rolls. One question though...what's "bulb mode"?
|
I shoot a fairbit. The other day I added up my costs for a year and it was about $1 for film (I hoarded a whole black's clearout of 100iso and 400iso film for $1.20 a roll) and I developed for $3. The developing and scans were pretty decent until about half way through the year. $120 for film $330 for processing $450 in total. I was probabily out about $600 with a film set up. I would have had to pay triple that for a d200 body and shit lens. The one thing that sucks about developing film is dumb lemmings who develop it who end up scratching your negatives. Other then that, its cheaper then everyone else makes out to be, and you will pay more attention to composition, lighting and whatnot if your shooting with film then digi. bulb mode allows you to hold the shutter open indefinitely should you like. usually used in conjunction with a remote trigger or a shutter locking mechanism.

I sell them, so if you have questions I can tell you about them.

So why not continue to use it? Not everyone needs a 5d or MarkIIn for UE photography. Then again, for some people it makes no difference what they shoot with it.

| | | Re: Questions about SLR's <Reply # 25 on 2/13/2008 3:55 AM >
| | | My friend has the Rebel XTI, but there seems to be something (forgive the term) wrong with the back focus (It's a really a video thing) so her photos are constantly not as crisp as they should be... Besides personally I have the Nikon D70 (almost four years I had it) it's been dropped (not recommended), packed all over the place, thrown in the back of my car (where it is right now), and still works nearly flawlessly (dirt on the sensor). I think what I'm saying is for those looking to upgrade (who don't already own an SLR) I believe Nikon is the way to go. For those who already own an SLR, whoever makes your current SLR is the way to go.

Those cameras are basically both entry level models. What's your argument in favor of Nikon, other then its 'ruggid'?

The main reason I don't bring the Minolta is basically because I usually end up taking +100 shots for each place I explore. It's more convenient for me to use digital cameras so that I'm not limited by the amount of film I have - and can afford.

|
I'm curious why you would say that. Shooting with a dslr - I find the cost effectiveness makes it easier to shoot a higher volume of photos which translates to more (cherry) shots I value overall. Several photographers I know who've progressed from film to dslr's have said shooting digital helps remove that shutter button hesitation they had with film. That moment of uncertainty when you hesitate on a shot...wondering if its a waste of a comparatively more expensive film frame.
You can always tell when you're watching Canadian television - the actors in the show are the same ones doing the commercials. |

| | | the f-stop also relates to how "fast" your lens is. the smaller the f-stop, the less light can come in, which means your shutter is slower to allow the light in. a lens that's a f/2.8 is a "fast" lens because the opening is so large, and your shutter speed can be a lot faster.

| | | your best bet unless you know anything about a camera, is to just let the camera do it for you, i'm willing to bet your pentax will do just fine if you just put it on an automatic setting. there are formula's you need to know if your going to adjust your own F-STOP, if you dont know them your likely to start out getting under exposed or over exposed pictures, but the up side is trial and error teaches you, so just go out and take random pictures untill you know how to use it.

Oh god, absolutely. I went to an old mill ruin to take some shots. It was a great day and I took some killer pictures. I go to get it developed and the guy gives me back my negatives saying he couldn't develop them. I was about to bust a vein.

Since you asked, I feel duty bound to answer... I believe Nikon's are a nicer cameras because they have (in my opinion) a better, easier to use interface than Canon. I could go on about this, but I have posted a rather detailed answer in the "which camera thread"... Film is the way to go for UE... I have a Nikon N2020 (1980's BABY) and I still carry that stupid thing to almost every site I go to, and use it quite often!

| | | i think the only REAL difference between canon and nikon is preference. canon has some really great things nikon doesn't and vise versa. they're both the top 2 camera brands and i think they're quality is extremely similar, except canon's high end lenses are a bit cheaper than the equivalent in nikon's line and from what i've read the quality is pretty much the same.

I suggest that we continue this discussion in the photography thread. As for lenses for the Canon's being cheaper, it's actually exactly flipped. The really high end lenses to be cheaper if they are Nikons. As for the cameras the quality is similar, but Nikon's generally have a better and easier to use user interface. There is a reason they are the number one DSLR camera manufacture in the world! Then again that is only a temporary thing, as technology advances the cameras will get better and canon could beat out Nikon. At the end of the day it all depends on what you want out of the camera. It's all about how it feels and how it works for you.
