Why would you bring a toughbook? That would be an expensive loss.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Go with the tripod instead of the computer when exploring. Maybe choose a less expensive tripod too while you are at it. Don't want to lose, break, get confiscated, or have stolen anything of extreme value.

I have a trashy tripod that I add some small sand bags to for additional weight and stability when using so the pictures come out okay. I won't cry if something happens to it (I actually rescued it from a trash can. Only thing wrong with it was that it was missing a locking bolt on one of the legs. Just purchased an equivalent screw/bolt from the local Home Depot, and it works fine.)

I'm going hunting for mysteries. Where's my flashlight?

Same price as the tripod.

Oh, and for the person who posted the photo above, the toughbook is the cf-28, look here: http://computers.s...fQ2d28Q20toughbook

Wtf are you gonna do with a laptop while exploring?? Oh and btw, don't buy a tripod if you don't have a camera. Normally this would be common sense...but for some reason I think it needs to be explained this time...

-If I had to choose, I'd pick the Gitzo - because a tripod is a heck of a lot more useful when UEing than a laptop.

I would consider, though, to buy a cheaper tripod - you get a more than decent Manfrotto for 1/4 of the price of a Gitzo 1127 here in Norway - meaning, you could easily buy the Manfrotto and spend the money saved on a plane ticket to eg. Russia to do some overseas UE.

What price range would i be looking in? I'm looking for $300 with a head.

Also, to the poster above, yes I do have a camera. I also have 4 lenses, a flash and a spotmeter. I do need to buy more film though. Would a 1 degree spotmeter be helpful for ue photography, or can I just use the built in meter.

Also, a live video feed of you UEing would be cool!

Like OddE stated, get yourself a good Manfrotto tripod and a head or two... much cheaper then over priced Gitzo equipment... plus you're garunteed to scratch/dent/submerge your tripod at some point in some UE location.

$250 and your set, just remember like Ignavius said -- your bound to drop it, and my tripod has been abused a fair bit and its working fine.

Do abandoned buildings where you live come with WI-FI?

Leave the computer at home.

I am not usually a rude guy on here but stop asking questions and go explore. Exploring is about the experience not the expensive gear.

I carry my camera, batteries, compact flash card and tripod. What else do you really need?
