I have a huge box full of road maps from the United States from the 1930s to the present. I would like to scan some in ( and attempted a long time ago ), but they are such a pain in the ass.

I hear ya. I've got hundreds more paper maps in my collection. I'd love to scan them all and use them as screen-savers or put them online, but I can't bring myself to do it. Even if I did have a scanner.

I often get color drawings that owners lost the original cad files at Industries Poly on Rachel st. B&W scan is around $4 while color is $25.00... I know not cheap, but you save the all the patch work. They can scan big drawings 36 x .... long as you want.

Can you put large maps on places like Photobucket or is there too much of a limit?

Thanks, SPEK. I'll keep that in mind for when I have some spare coin.

I'm no expert but I don't think any of them let you store files bigger than 20 MB or so.

I uploaded a new index file that organizes the maps by year and place. Check it out. You might have to refresh your browser for the change to take effect.

Good Job there Wang,

That idea is great.

You know, Av-X should have your site on the links section and maybe even have a link to it on the left menu. There are plenty of Ontario maps in there as well.

Thanks, but it's not really UE, even if people do enjoy them.

I remember them having a pretty impressive collection when I was a kid, but I think it's down to that one aerial photo now. Maybe it was the fire that did them in? Paper just doesn't last outside of a museum...

Cette carte est incroyable!
D'après ce qu'elle indique, il y avait un tunnel ferroviaire qui passait en-dessous de la rue Notre-Dame juste a l'est du pont jacques-cartier pour rejoindre l'usine Dominion Paint.

I'm not sure if it is still there, but it was a couple of years ago when I was going to school.... In the Frank Dawson Adams (FDA) building at McGill, there is a huge map of montreal on the third floor. It's as tall as the wall and runs down the hallway. Impressive!
