| | | gorgeous pic of the tower. Actually, that's no easy task. It's a long walk from where you put your camera to the top of the tower.

Thanks. This was taken from the balcony, not ground level. More of a run, than a walk but still a ways.

A bunch of us actually went a few weeks ago. We went into the main hospital building. After finding out way in we spent a bunch of time in the basement and it was difficult finding out way up at first. We spent some more time on the first floor and eventually skipped right to the ninth. All of the floors essentially seem to be the same. There really doesn't seem to be much left there of interest. The place is pretty thrashed, I'm sure many people have made their way in there and that's why they have chains on doors and welded others shut. The group of us pretty much decided at that time that we probably wouldn't go back to that building but we still would go back to the other buildings on the site before it all gets destroyed.

| | | seany, when was the last time you were in there? the building is so trashed that even the bathroom signs are missing. it takes forever to get around because you walk around in circles, no knowing where the fuck you are. damned scrappers. what floors are the vents on, and the seismograph? the theater is rad.

| | | over a year, but it's always been trashed. there were days when we were there that when it was wet you would get an inch of wet celling tile dust stuck to your boots that you would have to scrape off later. The building isn't that hard to navigate once you have a general floor plan in your head. The best part is when you `swear` there is some one else inside, but can't find them :-p the air tube sorter is on the top floor behind the elevator equipment.
the seismograph is not very interesting in and of itself. We had a group meet up there about 2 years ago (has it been that long? o_0) a bunch of us showed up (maybe 8) were in a bunch of things, bowling ally, bouncy gym, PX, etc. We were enticed by the thought of tunnels and went wandering around in the paved section of the main buildings sub basement. All 8 of us spent about an hour getting lost in a room the size of the hospital (ie, large) that is about 4 feet tall, and a maze of air ducts, and pipe. We came to the conclusion that they don't exist. On our way out we spotted something weird in one of the corners, it was a locked box that was bolted to the floor (picture a small tool box) after some fiddling we got it open, and it was a remote sensor for some type of geological research. Not exactly what we were looking for, and a bit of a let down, but interesting none the less. If i remember correctly, that trip ended rather fast as two people who we didn't know randomly showed up and scared the crap out of us. it was like cockroaches running from the light.

It's true!! I was just there and was sorely disappointed. It looks like they are in the midst of the beginning phases of demolition. From my vague understanding they are trying to tear apart the building from the inside-out, salvaging anything that is valuable? I saw a barrel of flourescent light bulbs and some garbage bags filled with that fluffy pink insulation material, like they might want to recycle this stuff. Most of the squishy ceiling tiles are laying on the floor with other doors/scraps of metal/rubble making it pretty difficult to even walk around comfortably. There are few artifacts left and most of the rooms are stripped and therefore look almost identical. There is also tons of graffiti on pretty much every floor. Makes me jealous of those who got to go in 2005. There isn't a whole lot of character left. Seems pretty trashed. Ah well, still haven't even gotten around to checking out the other half of that site... [last edit 12/16/2007 10:07 AM by plexiglas - edited 1 times]
