This kitschy hotel in downtown looks like it might have been a cool place in the 1950s, but was never renovated since... thus being relegated to "cheap downtown motel" status. It was open as recently as 2005, yet the renovation requires asbestos removal procedures. How lovely!

You do realize that probably most of the buildings you go in and out of every day have asbestos in some form in them ?
This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

here in canadia it took forever to outlaw asbestos in buildings so we have some pretty recent building loaded with the stuff. even our expressways have the stuff mixed in with the concrete!

Sure, the high level exposure diseases (asbestosis &etc) are fairly easy to quantify, but the link between asbestos and mesothelioma is still a bit enigmatic, as it takes 20+ years for the exposed subject to develop the disease.
But the connection has been drawn, primarily because mesothelioma is rare and deadly enough that even with 20-year time gaps correlation was still possible. Also the CDC can't decide on what a "safe" threshold for exposure is, because the mesothelioma cases that have been linked to asbestos exposure are "all over the map" in terms of exposure amounts, durations, &etc. Some people just seem to be much more susceptible to it than others. Or maybe there's a catalyst involved that we've yet to identify. Who knows?
