|  | | | Known about this site, near Manchester, UK, for years, and visited it often. It was rumoured to be an old military base, housing Canadian troops during the Second World War.
Research confirmed that, but I lost all my notes.
It was only due to a thread in another forum (www.28dayslater.co.uk), that rekindled my interest in it. They have some basic information on it there, just search for Glazebrook Camp on that forum, if you want more info.
I finally made it back there yesterday, only to find that my camera had "issues", and it was while I was trying to sort my camera out that a Special Constable (basically, a volunteer police officer) accosted me. However, once she decided I was only taking pictures, and not there to do dope, or smash things up, she turned out to be a fairly good source of information.
Sadly, it transpires that the locals are campaigning to get the site bulldozed, and I got the impression, they had won, and demolition is now on the cards.
Anyway... Heres some pictures.
First up, taken from inside one of the buildings, looking out of a door towards what used to be an indoor shooting range.
Next up, looking at the foundations where one of the barracks blocks has been flattened.
Finally, what used to be a boiler house for a base-wide central heating system.
As I said, I was having camera issues, so these are the only pictures I was able to get. All the others are unusable. I need to return with a better camera, and soon.
