I'm on a roll this week...

Yeah, I know I just posted stuff yesterday, BUT heere goes again. Some of these like the other post'll go into the critique forum...

This is an "abandoned" hospital here in town. It's being turned into a college campus. The lady on the phone earlier said she didn't know for sure if they were going to tear it down or just remodel. I'm working on getting permission to go inside since it is owned by a college now, and even to get into the gate. I know it'd be more fun to sneak in, BUT I want permission to do this. I'm a wuss...
I wanted to add these because my mother and my uncles we all born here. (It became part of HealthSouth. ya know, Richard Scrushy?? Yeah.) So here it sits on this beautiful hill waiting for possible demolishion...

I dont know if you saw my response to the other pics that you posted but this is the same kinda thing for me. pics of the exterior are fine if you are using them to begin an exploration, but you need more.

At least get up close to the building and take some more interesting shots. Get up close to the incinerator and take some more artistic shots. just be creative and see what happens.

take lots of different shot of different views of the hospital. close, far, upsidedown rightside up ect. the more shots that you take the better a chance that few will come out.

PM me sometime if you wanna talk more.

I plan on getting in the gate.. I just have to get permission as I said before.. I'm working on that tomorrow. There was no security on site yesterday that I could see, but I'm sure that there are cameras and stuff and I would have been swarmed once I walked in that gate.. I don't think it would have been bad, but still I want permission before going in. Plus I will have a tripod tomorrow so that'll help when I go back as well.. I love this place and I want to do it justice. These are kinda lame, but I will get more. I'm gonna ask to go in, supervised of course. They still have cleaning crews in and out of there, plus all the power stays on 24/7. It looks like it's still operational except for all the gates around it. I'll keep you posted on the status of getting in it! ^_~

IrIsHmOm, your comments about your mom and uncles being born in this place are very compelling. I think that many times the human attachment to place is missing UE photography, so the place that look "cool" and produce great photos become more or less commodified by the photographer. By having some kind of human element in the exploration, the site becomes a kind of sacred ground. Oh, and LOL @ your Schrushy comment, what a bastard!

You betcha

well, since it's now part of a college campus, i want permission to be there, and I have to be supervised by head of security.. so he may let me in it, depending on his mood i suppose...

another thing about this place is that years ago, a young girl that my mom went to school with was foung hanging in one of those huge trees out front in the first picture. She was kidnapped and killed and left there in a tree.. She was already dead before she was hung. So that's another attachment I have with this place. I can't go to my grandmother's house without thinking about that girl...
That's why I like that first photo the best. It's dark and shows how creepy this place is to me when I drive by..

And yes he is a bastard. Him and Don Seigleman, too.... They need to change the street this place is on back to the original name.... ^_^

Trust me, if I get to go in, there will be plenty of pictures!! They've kept it very clean and preserved for the college to take over, so I'm sure there's no deterioration whatsoever.

Irishmom, i'm gonna lay some stuff out here for ya'. I like the fact that you are very interested in exploration and want to share your enthusiasm with others. Please be aware that the things i'm about to explain are in your best interests to understand when posting to this online community.

People who have been explorers for a while usually scout places, but also get in and when they've explored the place, they show their documentation of that experience. The idea is to share with people your journey i.e. exploration. When you show brief scouting pics that show little to nothing about the facility you are interested in exploring and describe how you are about to do it might rub some members the wrong way, partially because they *am me* tend to be elitist about this hobby. Is it fucked up? yep. i'm being nice enough to try to explain how things tend to work before people start "djdrew-ing" you.

You can get permission. You should also just suck it up and go in. 99% of the time no one stops you. I've explored hundreds of places, possibly in the thousands over the past 10 years and i've been caught 2 times, both of which i talked my way out of, including a trespassing chaqrge on federal land. sometimes just going out and doing it is more fun than tip toe-ing around going for it.

Its kind of like having sex the first time. its awkward, a little nerve wracking, but ultimately satisfying.

I hate all of you

Thanks for that!! Yeah I kinda get ahead of myself sometimes with preliminary pictures... Sorry bout that. I just get excited and have to share what I have. ^_^
I'd rather do this one by the book. Now others I have lined up, I'm not. This one though, because it is owned now by a college, I want to do it right so that I have ample time to get what I want from it. It's a BIG place and all the power is still on all the time, so no hiding in the dark. It's easier for me to get the permission I need to get in so that I can take my time and get some good pics to share of this beautiful location. I know it may be more fun the other way, but this is one of those places that I don't want to risk it. See what I'm saying? Other places I'm going to go are NOT by the book so may be more 'exciting' for you to see on here from me.
It's very hard to get a foot in the door (pun intended) on this site, which is disheartening to some, but even if you dont like the methods I get into a place that NOBODY ELSE on here has, doesnt matter to me. You haven't been in it so it makes me feel good about the location. Only one other person on here knows where it is, because I trust him not to fuck it up. Not saying you yourself would, but it makes me feel really good that I have a location nobody else does. So I really don't feel bad about doing this one the 'moral' way.

But what you said does mak sense to me, and don't think that I'm mad about it in any way.. Just wanted to explain my reasons! I appreciate that you took the time to write all that and even check this thread out because I was really proud to post it for you to see.

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
