|  | | | I live in Birmingham and there's this building you can see from the interstate but you really can't see the road to it. I google earth'd it and found what i though might be it related to the direction it was from the interstate. Ended up I was right. So, 2 nights ago me and my friend went to a BAD BAD part of birmingham (between Southside and West End) to find this place. And lo and behold we did! Problem is, I can't find crap about it on google. I want to know what it was. The sign outside says "Titusville *something* and Development" --can't remember exactly. Here are the best pics I got of the place. If you know what it is and dont want to say in the thread feel free to PM me.. I really wanna go in this place, but i'm thinking since its about 50 yards from the Golden Flake plant, that's not gonna be a go anytime soon, even though the gate in front stands wide open. Another problem when we went last night was that there were cops EVERYWHERE, at least 2 around every corner.
So here's the front side.. there's a gazebo of some sort on the far side, so it's got me thinking 'hospital'..
and here's the back.. I know it's crooked. I took it in the car propped on the window because i had do it at such a high exposure and that was the only option i had. It looks like the place has been totally gutted...
*NOTE* The first one, I removed blur and corrected the contrast so that more detail could be seen. The second pic, blur was removed and was sharpened but there were tornadoes in the area so the sky really was that color. ^_^

I think we jut might when it stops raining.. i don;t think there are any windows in this place so rain is not nice in that situation.. plus we gotta check and se what kind of shift changes go on at golden flake and if there are any police that come down that particular street.. but of course i could always call around and see who knows what the hell it is.. *shrugs* I'll have plenty of pics when i go in it. it should be within the next 2 weeks.. thatks for the encouragement guys!!

Ok so here's the GoogleEarth image of this place... I marked the streets and stuff around it..
went this afternoon and took more pictures.
Now, after looking up this place, I have found that it was an office for Ingalls Iron Works, which was part of the U.S. Maritime Commission during WWII.
"Ingalls Iron Works was originally a small yard in Decatur AL, on the Tennessee River: its parent company, Ingalls Iron & Steel, was a large independent construction contractor. The yard's small size forced Ingalls to look for a bigger site, first in Birmingham, then in Chickasaw, and finally developing the Ingalls Shipbuilding yard in Pascagoula MS. Ingalls' shipbuilding interests were sold to Litton in 1961, which sold the Decatur shipyard to Trinity Industries in 1981. The Decatur yard used the same series of hull numbers as the Pascagoula yard."

Some of us believe that on public forums, for the sake of locations its best not to post all of the pertinent info so that just anyone could find it. In fact it makes it more fun if you have to go out and find it for yourself. You dont have to subscribe to these beliefs, I just thought i'd mention them

yeah i did all that before we called the redevelopment place this afternoon. HAHA... yeah i'm a retard... I've found that is there is a number to call, call it. The guy said that it would NOT be a good idea to go in, even though he didn't really care if we did, because of drug activity in and out of there.. Squatters aren't a prob--I'm friends with homeless people, but I'm afraid of people with drugs and on drugs... And yes, from what I could see, there are no windows. Period. ANd is completely gutted...
